James Pratt (jamesdpratt) | 3 comments Hi everybody,
My name is James Pratt. I joined this group in hopes of meeting fellow writers and seeing what other people interested in the same genres as me are up to. I'm hoping this will help keep me inspired and that I'll have a chance to do the same for other writers.

My favorite subgenres are dark fantasy (Moorcock, Glenn Cook), weird horror (Lovecraft, Clive Barker), and apocalyptic sci-fi (Lovecraftian style, as opposed to say disaster movie style). I really like stories where an unknown force, whether overtly or subtly, transforms the familiar into something weird and scary, which is probably why I like Lovecraft so much. But I also like strong characterization, something most of Lovecraft's stories conspicuously lack, and try to keep my stories at least partially character-driven.

I currently have fifty items (so far just short stories) listed on Goodreads with links to Amazon and Smashwords, including some free items. And if you do check out my author page and see anything that strikes your fancy, let me know and I'll get you a free copy. At this point I'd just be happy knowing somebody somewhere is reading something I made.

I'm currently working on my first novel which combines traditional fantasy (elves, wizards, etc.) with Lovecraftian gods and monsters, with a heavy emphasis on Lovecraft's own creations plus the King in Yellow portion of the Cthulhu mythos.

Thanks for having me and have a great day.
