Kate (katespofford) I had to start a new thread because I LOVED this book... I loved Augustus and sobbed through the whole ending... Has anyone else read it and what are your thoughts?

Samantha (childas) I've read it and thought it was beautiful. Not only was it needed (due to certain circumstances in my family and friends) but it was just beautiful. I suggest we create a new adjective, because beautiful, amazing, heartwretching, just don't cover it.

Mitchell (raggedcompany) | 2 comments I received this book a little less than a month before my own mother died from cancer. I would say that maybe I am biased towards this particular book, but I've read John Greens other stuff and loved it as well.

I think John Green did a terrific job. I loved the characters (as I always do in his books), I loved the story line. I really enjoyed the entire book.

I find myself often thinking of Augustus saying, "I'm on a roller-coaster that only goes up!"

I also really enjoyed the quote "Some infinities are bigger than others".

It really was beautiful. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) This book is just so beautiful! :)

I know I still have a few pages to go but still it touched me in so many ways that i just find myself crying once in a while.

John Green's writing is totally addicting.

I lost my mother to cancer, too, Mitchell. I am so sorry for your loss.

Rae (rhiaaaaa) I love all of John Green's books and this one is no exception. I love the way he understands how teenagers think and act, but also manages to include very deep and philosophical insights on life. I didn't cry at the end but I was very close; it was definitely very moving.

I wrote the story of my mother's life about a year after. I talked to her friends, my dad, her parents (my grandparents)---and it released a lot of feelings and gave me a way to hang onto her a little longer. I still talk to her sometimes. You will find your own ways to recover. Take care of yourself, lean on family and friends. I will hold you in the light.

message 11: by Miah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Miah I cried through pretty much all of the book. And I don't cry in books, so this says alot about John Green <3

Becca (beccaa57) | 19 comments I adored this book!
I loved Augustus and I thought it was beautifully written.
I am sorry Kathleen and Mitchell for your losses :( I can only imagine how the book helped.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved this book so much! Definitely wasn't what I expected, and I cried all the way through, even though I'm usually not the type to cry over books. The characters were three-dimensional and beautifully developed, and the idea of the story and plot is just genius. It was amazing and I'd recommend it to just about everyone.

message 14: by Kelly (new) - rated it 1 star

Kelly (whatisakelly) One word.
Augustus!

Taylor (taylatuesday) Beautiful book to say the least. So many fine details in this book.

John Green has a tumblr specifically for TFIOS related questions and it's very interesting and informative

I read this one a month back.
I LOVED the side story of Anna's unfinished story.
I expected something sappy, but after reading this book, I have found that John Green can take any subject and turn it into magic.

I absolutely loved this book! I was crying for like an hour after I finished it and I couldn't stop! Oh Augustus why did it have to be you?

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I cried throughout the whole story. I was devestated when Augustus died

Kristina This book is moving. I love the characters, love Augustus. John Green has become one of my favorite authors and I must read all his books. I have read Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which is hilarious and uplifting...

With Hazel and Augustus' as well as the other characters, John Green has a way of making them believable and likable. I like many others, did cry towards the end of the book. I think making Gus die, just put more truth to the story. Life does suck.

saraC todd (saractodd) This book is fantastic. John Green is fantastic. I was pleased to see how well he wrote with a female protagonist. I have enjoyed everything he has written so far.

I was also glad to see the realism at the end - that there wasn't a cure that led to a happy ending. It made the book more honest and allowed me to believe the story. John Green doesn't shy away from writing difficult truths, in any of his books. And I love him more as an author for it.

Chloe (ChloeandBooks) | 17 comments I love this book! I couldnt stop crying :-..( Come to think of it I'm changing my rating to 5 stars..

Sarah | 1 comments This book was awesome. I loved the characters, their romance, the trip to Amsterdam. I felt like the book was really true to the characters' stories. That being said, because their story was about cancer which is a sad, dreary, slow thing, it didn't suck me in as much as his other books. For me, it wasn't a CANNOT-PUT-DOWN book like Looking For Alaska, but I think Green told the story the way it had to be told.

Jhoanna (Karafex) | 7 comments I just started reading this book today, and so far I'm really enjoying it! I love the author's writing style. Have to admit I've laughed out loud a couple of times already.

Taylor (taylatuesday) John Green is the best. Make sure to check out his other books!

Laura | 17 comments I loved all the characters, I was crying one minute while reading, then they'd make a joke and I'd burst out laughing. This book is impossible not to love.

I read it right when it came out I think after someone recommended it to me on this group (I can't remember who, sorry). It was just AMAZING! I would read it again and again and again.

Taylor This book is absolutely amazing, mainly because of its honesty with the characters and the subject matter. I have been going through some pretty serious medical stuff this past year and i've been in and out of the hospital a lot, so speaking from first hand experience this book really captures how young people feel when they're sick and in the hospital all the time. I love that John Green told the story so honestly. It is also just absolutely beautifully and skillfully written.

Taylor Saracolleen wrote: "This book is fantastic. John Green is fantastic. I was pleased to see how well he wrote with a female protagonist. I have enjoyed everything he has written so far.

Yes! I hate it when authors take the easy way out and make the ending so happy. It's not honest. I think John Green is really brave for making it so real. He's making a very strong statement

Nicole Wolverton (nicolewolverton) | 0 comments This is, without a doubt, one of my very favorite YA novels. Really perfectly crafte and written, and great characterizations.

I'm not much of of a cry-er in general, but my first read of this book had me snot-sobbing from, like, page 10.

I love love love (view spoiler).

Natasha (natashasnow) I finished this last night and I cried more than I've cried in a really, really long time. Years, probably. Then I thought about this book again this morning in the shower and cried.
It was a very beautiful book, that really impacted me.
There were so many points during the book that I was bawling so fiercely , that my makeup was all over my face and in my eyes, preventing me from clearly even reading the words.
This book felt so human, and I loved it.

Sydney Just finished reading this book...im speechless! It was a fantastic and heart-wrenching story, and definetly a book everyone should read!!!!

Martin I loved this book. It's my favorite out of all John Green's books.

I haven't read any other John Green books but I have heard that they are equally spectacular. Does anyone have a certain one that they'd recommend of his? I'm kind of in need of a good book these days. :)

I really liked the bit in this one where (view spoiler)

Amber (peoplewererain) | 250 comments I thought that the fault in our stars was beautiful and of course heartwrenchingly sad. extremely quotable as most of John green 's books seem to be as well as surprising and interesting. there was never a moment when I was bored. I knew from the start it was going to be a sad book but if you know what I mean it wasn't ( spoilers removed) who I expected to die. I think this is one of my favourite books!

Same here. I've only read TFIOS from John Green but I'm trying so hard to get his other books since they seem to be just as lovable. :')

I really adored how the cancer aspect is portrayed so realistically in TFIOS and also how the characters are like average teens trying to feel all the happiness that life has to offer. I just reread the book as soon as I finished and then I reread it again after a month. It just never gets boring even when you know the end. Infact, it gets better because it feels like you learn more and more about the characters every time you reread it.

message 47: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna (cheeruppirate) If you love TFIOS definitely read his other books. Paper Towns is my favorite, but Looking for Alaska is an excellent example of what an authors first book should be. He's also done some collab books that are equally wonderful. John Green knows how to write real people that have different facets of their personality and that's what I love.

Daria (dariarp) OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!! It made me cry soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much, it wasn't even funny. :'( *sobs while remembering*

M.J. Capulet (mjcapulet) | 64 comments THIS IS MY FAVORITE YA ROMANCE EVER.
The humor and tragedy between Hazel and Gus is perfectly coordinated. John Green was born to make this book and he was born to make readers laugh and cry with it.

Kirstyn | 18 comments Indeed, this book had the right mix of humor and tragedy to make me and I'm sure many others laugh and cry.
