Daria (dariarp) i LOVE Augustus!!!!!!

message 52: by L.W. (new) - rated it 4 stars

L.W. Patricks | 26 comments Loved this book and the voice of the characters. John Green captures the snarky wit of teenagers that makes the characters so 3- dimensional. Great read!

message 53: by R.L. (new)

R.L. Stedman I loved it, really nice to see teens with disabilities being treated as people first, disabilities second; not as objects of pity. I thought the resolution of the question that the book opened with - what is the point of life when when everything comes to an end - was beautifully answered by the conclusion of the novel. Reminded me of Vonnegurt's Slaughterhouse 5 for some reason. Maybe because he came to a similar conclusion; that some moments last forever. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) So far, this is the best book I've read this 2013.
It's beautiful that it made me cry.

Daria (dariarp) JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW SOME EXCITING NEWS (if you didn't know already)
THERE IS GOING TO BE A MOVIE!!!! JOHN GREEN HAS CONFIRMED!!!!!
Hazel is Shailene Woodley (she's is also gonna play Tris in Divergent)!! Nobody for Augustus yet :'(
I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!
Here is where I found this all out:

Csencsitz (christinecsencsitz) | 4 comments TFIOS is such a fantastic story. It is touching, fascinating, and the characters seem so realistic. Green is an amazing writer and storyteller, and his works transcend genres and age groups. I love sharing this (and other works of Green's) with my nieces and nephews.

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Augustus is going I be played by Ansel Elgort who also plays Caleb Prior in the Divergent movie.

Daria (dariarp) haha it's funny how the 2 main characters in TFiOS are both in Divergent :P They have to be siblings in Divergent, and lovers in TFiOs :P

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments It is going to be quite an awkward situation, but if John green thinks Ansel's the right choice then he's the right choice.

Daria (dariarp) Yeah, he doesn't look like how I imagined him, but I think he will do good. I trust John Green. :)
It's crazy Shailene Woodley is taking all the major roles right now!! She's got Tris, Hazel Grace, AND she's going to play Mary Jane Watson in the new Spiderman!!! :O

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Shailenes not actually going to be MJ Watson in Spider-Man 2. Her scenes were cut from the movie and she would be postponed till the 3rd one, but now it's looking like she's not even going to be MJ, because of conflicting schedules. I feel bad for her :(

Daria (dariarp) AWWWW that sucks!!! At least she still has those 2 big major roles still!!!

I couldn't agree more. So well said! When I get friends to read his work (who resist YA), they are always shocked how much they like it.

Do any of you live in the Bay Area and want to come to an awesome book club about The Fault in Our Stars? Here's some information about the event http://bit.ly/12uEcKD and know that there will be delicious cookies and awesome people! DFTBA

Daria (dariarp) I'm trying to get my sister to read it now!!! She reads SOOOOOOPER slow so she won't get to it for awhile...but whatever. :P

Allye A super captivating and amazing read. Love John green!

Renee (dustowl14231) | 1 comments I loved The Fault in Our Stars, and that is what got me into John Green, I now classify myself as a Nerfighter, and have read so much of John Green, that I feel I now know him personally.

The characters of TFIOS are so relateable, but not because they are needy teens who crave attention and love, like in most YA books I've stumbled apon, but it is really quite the opposite. The feelings and thoughts that Hazel has in particular, are so real, especially about how she describes AIA as a book she doesn't want to share, a book that she wants to keep to herself and ponder over for eternity. That pretty much sums up TFIOS for me.

This is the only book of John Green's that I have read which is from the perspective of a girl's, which I find quite interesting. In some of the other books, Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska for example, he tends to glorify the love interest, all of her imperfections. That is why I feel that TFIOS is so good to read with the other of John's because it shows the way girls see boys, which is so different to the way boys see girls.

Alessa Ellefson Oh, just bought this one and I can't wait to read it, from all the comments here! Is TFIOS the best of John Green's, you think? And/Or are all of his books just as good? If so, I think I'd have to check out his other books as well...

Audrey | 1 comments Try Looking for Alaska, it's my second favorite John Green book. It's a good book.

Thank you!

Cindy It's my favorite stand alone book! I love the personality or Hazel and Augustus. It's very eye opening. You get to see the world through the eyes of cancer patients that are kids, that should have their whole life ahead of them. Sometimes we get lost in our own life, and forget people are dying everyday. We take life for granted, when really it can be taken from us any day. I'm 15, and I can't imagine going through everyday wondering if I will see tomorrow or not. John Green is one of my favorite writers, and he did an amazing job, like always :)

arabella | 15 comments I just read this book out of curiousity! I sobbed I loved it but hated the ending. The ending was justified though. I dream about what happened to Hazel sometimes. Did she die? Did she love again? Did she live? What did she do for the rest of her life? I would go to John green's house and demand answers just as Augustus and Hazel did in the book!!!! I can't imagine or even fathom what would happen to Hazel well I can but I'd like an accurate version! Maybe I'll get my Augustus to make me a good ending. I have no idea.;-)

//Rustic Fantasy\\ I Absolutely LOVED this book!........That's all I'm gonna say.

message 74: by w :) (new) - rated it 4 stars

w :) I agree it was good, but I personally feel as like it's a bit overrated. I know that I have read many books better than TFIOS, but yeah, it was a good book and I guess I understand the hype over it.

I totally agree that this one was great too. It was the first John Green book i ever read.

Julia Wang (liamalfoy) | 20 comments I loved this book, but I hated the ending at the same time.

Tammie Tackett i just got this book and i will be reading it soon

Heather Kirchhoff | 15 comments This book was amazing.

Chrisi | 23 comments I (like many others) cried and am not ashamed of it xD I love john green and his writing style and meanwhile I've read that book about three or four times :D

message 82: by Kaya (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kaya | 11 comments Overrated, pretentious, shallow and flat. This is the first Green's book I've read and probably the last.

message 83: by J (new) - rated it 4 stars

J I didn't cry like I thought I would. That kind of disappointed me. I can see why people love it and cry so hard, though.

Alexandria | 2 comments Kate wrote: "I had to start a new thread because I LOVED this book... I loved Augustus and sobbed through the whole ending... Has anyone else read it and what are your thoughts?"

same here, i love this book

Anabelle | 5 comments I loved it when Hazel talks about Augustus. Her eulogy was so beautiful, it made me cry. This was definitely one of my favorite John Green books.

Brittany | 4 comments I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book. I decided to read it after viewing all the positive reviews. I bought it on my Kindle during a sale and I literally couldn't put it down. I don't tend to like plots about terminally ill individuals but this was such a fresh perspective on it. The characters were SO well characterized that they were believable and likeable at the same time. I find that rare in YA novels. I smiled, giggled, teared up, sighed...etc. This book takes you on a freakin journey and its so UNPREDICTABLE! YA novels tend to be predictable but this surely wasn't. This book will certainly make you FEEL. I can't wait to read more of John Green's books and I highly recommend this one.

Ishani | 4 comments Kaya wrote: "Overrated, pretentious, shallow and flat. This is the first Green's book I've read and probably the last."

I so agree, like looking at all the others comments I was thinking holy shit is it just me that hates this book!!!
Did anyone like the movie?? It was disappointing just like the book!! Well none of you will agree I guess

message 88: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie | 90 comments Honestly, I watched the Divergent movie first.... ( tris and caleb are siblings... and they have a romatic relationship in TFIOS) It's kinda weird to me =/

I don't really like sad endings.......

Ishani | 4 comments Cherry wrote: "Honestly, I watched the Divergent movie first.... ( tris and caleb are siblings... and they have a romatic relationship in TFIOS) It's kinda weird to me =/

This is the main reason I hated the movie even more. Couldn't they get different actors?? It was so gross and weird to see them making love in one and having sibling relationships in the other

Mac Dubista Keso The Bibliobibuli v(=∩_∩=) (macdubistaqueso) +i cry when i read and watch the TFIOS,
oh i love augustus and hazel grace!

oh well,
i guess our world is not a wish granting factory.

^_^

i will definitely re-read the story.

:)

*sigh emotionally,and smile*

The movie was a bit cheezy with a lot of repetitive and pointless quotes. Still better than a book, though.

A'Mya (parisamour) | 3 comments I loved this book. It opened my eyes to the world of cancer patients. It made me laugh and cry. Augustus and Hazel are a beautiful couple. the quotes were amazing and the characters were perfect. This book was so special yet laid back I struggled to see what was not enjoyable and confusing about this book. It was beautiful, well written and realistic.

Elisa i know me too. It gave me a new apprecitation and helped me understand it a little better.

True it was better than the book but Hazel in the movie made it sound like she hated life whereas not in the book as long as I remember.
And i don't think there was any turning point in the book/movie??

message 95: by Lauraeimre (new) - added it

Lauraeimre | 49 comments When I read it, I loved it. But know thinking about it, I ask myself : "What's was so special about it?" (Please don't hate me) And I lied when I said I cried. It didn't happen. I will reread it because I want to see what I think about this book now when I have read a lot more YA (TFIOS was one of the first YA books I read)

message 96: by Inda (new) - rated it 5 stars

Inda (indaherwood) I think the whole point of the book was to see life and death from two different perspectives. I also thought that Green did a really good job writing about the feelings you go through with illness.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I enjoyed this book, but found it very predictable.

Minda~Quenn {Somehow I found a way to get lost in you} There are no words, only tears. Tears of joy, sorrow, and raw emotion. John Green I applaud you.

Maggie It's my number one book. I've read it two years ago and got opsessed with it.
I cried and laughed at the same time, I didn't know if it was funny or terrifying. I was felt so many emotions at the same time. I still didn't read the book better than this one.
I've read it more than just once. Like, a lot more !
I'm recommanding it, it's a life-changing book.
