Last year, the US government passed detention provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that further entrench indefinite detention in US law and undermine human rights. What does indefinite detention look like?

Shaker Aamer, a former UK resident, has been held without charge at Guantanamo for 10 years - despite the UK government's request that he be returned to his wife and children in London.

Amnesty International calls on the US authorities to either charge Shaker Aamer with a crime and try him fairly in US federal court, or release him to the UK. All people -- including Guantanamo detainees -- have the human right to due process and a fair trial. These rights protect us all against abuse of power by governments.
