Kay (kaylovestoread) | 11 comments I have books on my shelf for author Roxanne St. Claire
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

When I sort my shelves by author, this author sorts by default to C.

If the space were removed between the St. and Claire, would the author than sort to default to S, which is correct? If so, can this correction please be made?

thanks

This is a known issue, which also affects all authors with suffixes or other two-word surnames.

We do NOT remove the space, unless that's how the author's name is spelled on her books. (Clearly not the case here.)

I hope some day GR will have the ability to adjust this so authors names sort correctly

I agree that would be useful. :)

Barbara Sullivan | 8 comments My understanding is this: if the author uses the last name of St. Claire, and not Claire, you alphabetize by saint--fully spelled out. This is the Dewey alphabetization system rule, and holds for any last name with or without spaces, hyphens, apostrophes. This simple list of rules may help.

Barbara Sullivan | 8 comments Of course, cross-referencing helps all of us confused mortals find the information we're seeking,so a second entry would be, "Claire, Roxanne St. see Saint Claire, Roxsanne."

I've always hated this see reference--means you have to search again--but a double entry, repeating all the germane information to this author, would eat up data space.
