I forget, what is the task you are working on, Lauren?

message 1110: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Read a book you started but didn't finish.

I have one that's perfect (as well as others I could use), but I'm struggling to fit it in at the moment.

message 1111: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I hate those tasks. I don't have any books anymore I started but didn't finish. And usually there is a good reason why you didn't finish the book. :)

message 1112: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Good thing you didn't get that task!
Luckily the book I have in mind was abandoned because of poor timing rather than it being boring, but it wasn't the most exciting book either so I'm not all that keen about the task anyway.

message 1113: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Well I still have my opt out in case I get a task like that.
Well it is up to you to read it. It is not a challenge that you can complete.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
In that case any suggestions?

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod

I read the Brethren for task 283 - Read a Legal Thriller. Now I know why that book has been sitting unread on my shelf for so long. I wish it had stayed that way.

Can I have task 396 please?

396 - Read a book with 500 pages or more

Sorry Barbara!

Don't be! This gives me the excuse I need to finally read Naamah's Kiss. A book I have been postponing since the beginning of this challenge because of this challenge. If I find it interesting I could read it in one day. I have done that before with Carey's other books that were even longer.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Yeah alot of people have had that book on their to-read list for a while.
It is a pity you don't have a copy of The casual Vacancy it is just over 500 pages and I can only assume that you are looking forward to reading it, since you are such a Harry Potter fan.

That is the point: I am a HP fan, but am I also a JK Rowling fan? I have looked forward to her new book and if it was cheaper I would have bought it already, but the more I hear about it and the more reviews I see, the less interested I am. I also question an author who is so all over the place with her writing. I mean HP was for teens, The Casual Vacancy is for adults and earlier this week Rowling said that she had ideas for her next book and that it will probably be a book for very small/young children. If you can pull it off, great, but I have my doubts that she can.

At least in Naamah's Kiss I have a book I really want to read even though it has more than 700 pages.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Yeah stick with Naamah's Kiss and don't waste your money!

Nah! You musn't see it that way. It's more that Goodreads loves me and is slowing you down. :P

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
You know what I think I give up. I've read 57 books for this challenge and I honestly can't find a book that I am willing to read that has a bag on it!

message 1135: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Oh no!
There must be something out there you're willing to read. Did you check Listopia? Isn't there some romance novel with a woman holding a purse. How about Luggage? From Terry Pratchett. Does he count? He is on several covers. If I find something I'll let you know.

Lu to the rescue:

Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell - I liked the tv show! Handbags and Homicide (Haley Randolph, #1) by Dorothy Howell , Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig - I enjoyed this book, Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1) by Katie McGarry - that looks like a bag, Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti - looks nice, Reaper by L.S. Murphy , Cold Fury by T.M. Goeglein , Dodge the Bullet by Christy Hayes , How My Summer Went Up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski

Oh, come on! I thought you might be undone by epic fantasy, but not by a handbag!

Ok it was obviously late last night and I was being a drama queen, as well as blind! 2 of Lu's suggestions are actually on my to-read list! *Blush*

It's a girl's prerogative to be a drama queen every once in a while. So don't worry. I am just glad you're back!

I just finished Naamh's Kiss for task 396 - Read a book with 500 pages or more. It has close to 800 pages.
Truly a book I enjoyed reading and I can't wait to read parts 2 and 3.

Can I have task 508, please?

message 1142: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I might have found a loophole in my task, and I'm just wondering if I could get away with it. The task is to read a book I started but didn't finish. If I read the first 30 pages of a novel today, and then start over tomorrow and read the whole thing from cover to cover, would that count?

message 1143: by Barbara (last edited Oct 11, 2012 02:56PM) (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
LOL! I have my doubts. I think that Lu wants more time between the first and second attempt.
If you wanted to get away with it you should never have mentioned it and just have done it. :)

508 - Read a book that has a butterfly on the cover

Rofl no, it has to be at least a month in between

message 1145: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
And now you don't apologise. Weird. It is harder for me to find a book with a butterfly on the cover than it is to find a book with more than 500 pages.
Will go and find one now. Wish me luck!

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Good luck!
Let me know if you need some suggestions :)

message 1147: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Thanks! I found one.
The problem isn't so much as finding one (because there are lots of them out there) but finding one I already own. I am trying to cut down on buying books for challenges. Especially if it is a book I had no prior interest in. So I have to go through my books and that can be a pain. But I found the Collector by John Fowles. Don't know why I have that one, because it doesn't really sound interesting, but I will read it. :)
