This book Scifi - People don't talk they just point their pda/cellphones at each other to get statistics and a persons ratings. And if someone does talk they get annoyed and say things like "I can't believe he verballed me". That's about all I can remember.

Perhaps Extras by Scott Westerfeld? It at least has the "ratings" element, if I remember correctly, but it's been a while.http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49...
Wow, you guys are fast. @Kim - I don't remember when I read it. It just popped into my head the other day when my friend and I bumped phones to exchange info. I only remember "he had the nerve to verbal me"
@Miriam it maybe the Uglies series. I'll check it out.
@Lobstergirl - I don't think so.
@Miriam - Checked it out. If it is the Uglies I'm going to pass. My brain hasn't recovered from reading the Hunger Games (shudder). Thanks for answering though.
Are you sure? "In the early pages of Super Sad True Love Story, Shteyngart has quite a bit of fun filling in the details of his postliterate near future, where "verballing" face-to-face feels quaint and everybody interacts instead by way of the iPhone-like devices called äppäräti."

@Miriam the shudder wasn't because Hunger Games was dystopic. It was because it was so bad, like reading a teenage Harlequin Romance were a few people die. I had to sleep with Ender's Game under my pillow to ward off nightmares. I'm afraid that the Ugly series will be just as badly written.
Stephina--be sure to come back and tell us if that is the correct one please. We do so love to know.
You don't have to read about this in a book. You can see it in real life. There are some strange species of erect, two-legged maggots who actually live like this in the world today.

No worries. If you change your mind, we can move your request back to the "Unsolved" folder at any time.
