Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Wow! Now I definitely need to watch it! And read WH...although I'm pretty sure I'm rather knowledgeable about how to not go about relationships seeing as I've never really been able to make one XD How to mess up a marriage, I admit, I do not know though.

message 52: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't know that, Dawn. Makes sense, however. Peck's Atticus Finch has always been one of my heroes.

message 53: by Sherry (last edited Jul 03, 2012 06:46PM) (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I watched half of the movie. It was good. Peck does suit Atticus rather well!

Up to Chapter XXXII of Jane Eyre, the 9th book. about 20% left to go. It's better than I thought it would be.

message 54: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) IMO, Gregory Peck did most things well. He was the heartthrob of my mother's generation and she still gets a glint in her macular degeration affected eyes at the mention of his name! :)

Do you mean that you like Jane Eyre, Sherry, or just that you don't hate it?

message 55: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I get that way with Cary Grant.

I mean that I like it. I just never figured it for a book that I would actually enjoy :D

message 56: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments I get a glint in my eyes for both Gregory Peck and Cary Grant ;-).

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Jane Eyre, Sherry.

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

Go Jane Eyre! Yay, another fan :-)

And another starry-eyed Gregory Peck admirer here.

message 59: by Sherry (last edited Jul 05, 2012 04:15PM) (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I have just finished Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë .

4/5 stars.
The life of Jane Eyre took many turns, but it all worked out in the end for the better, proving that as long as we all try our hardest it will work out somehow.

Now, onto #10! (whatever that will be...)

How to Be a Great Lover Girlfriend-to-Girlfriend Totally Explicit Techniques that Will Blow His Mind by Lou Paget
In my seemingly never ending quest to get over the nauseating feeling that the mere thought of sex brings me more often than not, I read this book. It took almost a year and half, but I did it. Overall, it was written pretty well. I'm not really sure how effective the things in the book are as I have no boyfriend/husband, but I think it has helped to desensitize me a little.

Onto #11: Bossypants by Tina Fey !

Me too, he was a really bad guy in The Boys From Brazil but what an amazing actor!

Love the Tina Fey.

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments It's been a day and I am already 85% done! THAT is a sign of a good book (or a really short one since I read at about a snail's pace!)

message 63: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Just finished!!

Bossypants by Tina Fey
5/5
An interesting look at Tina Fey's life. Throughout all of it, I was inspired by her humor. The end really left with a feeling that the things I've been worrying over will work out in the end. It may not be that great now, but it will get there!

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

You'll reach grown-up status soon enough, Sherry! :)

message 65: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments hahaha, that is a good thing and a bad thing. Although I did mail in my modified tax form the other day, so that made me feel rather much a grown up. Although after that I felt that I should have earned a badge or something, so I think that nullified the grown up feeling.

I have picked the last one! Wuthering Heights is being read, but it may take a while, so I picked another to go with it.

Devil's Food Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #14) by Joanne Fluke

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, good, Wuthering Heights! I can't wait to hear which camp you end up in, love it or hate it. :)

message 67: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments haha, I will let you know!

Once I get more into it...I'm only at 6% now (another Kindle download spree book!)

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I love those free and 99 cent books. If I wasn't reading The Hunger Games right now, I'd re-read WH with you. Who knows, I might just catch you up! :)

message 69: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I think you'll probably surpass me! But I will try to get a good head start ;D Read HG's slowly...very very slowly...

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Finished Devil's Food Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #14) by Joanne Fluke

3/5 stars: First one from this author, but I thought it was decent. I figured out at least half of the mystery before the book was too far into the plot, but it was an enjoyable read.

I'm now finished with this mountain, but I'm not sure if I can complete the number of required books for the next one up. We'll have to see...

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

How about Heathcliff??

message 72: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Wuthering Heights is still on the list of to-be-read, but I'm not sure if I can read the 13 (I think) extra books for the next mountain. He's still there...I'm just not sure if he and some other buddies can put me at the 25 book mark.

message 73: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 24, 2012 12:56AM) (new)

Well you have accomplished this one, so you should be feeling proud of yourself. Yay!

(and leave Heathcliff right where he is... even better, you can bury him under a pile of books!)

message 74: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Thank you, thank you!! Heathcliff will be read...it just may take awhile...

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, Hayes. What am I gonna do with you??

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

And, CONGRATULATIONS Sherry on making it up the mountain! I've been dawdling....

message 77: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments Jeanette - you've been reading like a fiend! Perhaps not the books that apply here though XD

I decided to attempt to give the next mountain a try! Here's hoping!

message 78: by [deleted user] (new)

I read a lot of books on vacation, but not many counted for my challenge. I just don't buy that many books, except for my manga.

Good luck with the climb, Sherry!

message 79: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments You usually use the library, correct?

Thanks much! I have a good number of cozy mysteries and those usually don't take too long to read! WH is the serious book that will take some time, but hopefully I'll get that done this year as well!! (It's taken quite a few to start it, so it's really not as bad as it sounds XD )

message 80: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 25, 2012 06:11PM) (new)

I try to find books at the library, or as kindle freebies/cheapies. I don't like buying a book if I'm not sure I'll enjoy it. Sad to admit, but I have a few manga series that I wish I hadn't started buying, because the stories took a direction I didn't enjoy.

message 81: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I am that way, too. When I went home last year, I checked out many books from the library! I thought they'd be great for after surgery, and they were, but I spent a lot of time asleep so I couldn't really finish more than a few comics and a book or two.

But, I agree. It is really disappointing to start a series just to have it turn bad mid-way.

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

I probably forgot -- what kind of surgery? Are you recuperating well? Do I need to send you food to fatten you up a bit?? (my mother hen side peeking out).

I was disappointed by Bunny Drop 5, Hana-Kimi, and Story of Saiunkoku. I have all of these unfinished....

message 83: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sdmccarty) | 61 comments I had my gall bladder removed. I'm still not at 100%, but lately I haven't been as bad as I had been. I still need to steer far far FAR away from foods with almost any oil in them, and fried foods are a big no-no.

hahaha, no worries! I fattened myself up pretty well XD My trainer was sad with the weight that I gained, so I am in the process of attempting to lose it healthily (attempt because it is so hot and stressful right now that I don't actually want to eat).

Bunny Drops seemed cute, but I never tried it. I got one volume into Hana-kimi and then stopped. And I've never heard of the last one. But, I will steer clear of those unless I find them for free (either library or standing and reading at the used book store).
