Simple answer - no and no.

That said, there is some history on Ward that comes out in book 4. Sort of.

No, I don't have a map because the geography is almost the same barring a couple of French towns that got sunk by the Magic Circle. What I do have is a 'bible' that contains all the little things that I mention (Campaign for real travel, Costa Del Sol Coffee houses and the like) so that I don't contradict myself.

I'm pretty steeped in this world at the moment so it's not proving to be too much of a problem for me.

No, but I do have a lot of fun thinking up tiny little ways in which the world is different. I really want airships to come back. Now that would be a way to travel.

Instantaneous teleportation would be fine, but you just know that your luggage would appear in Baltimore whilst you've gone to Bali.

Or the other way round, and your luggage would have a better holiday than you would!

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I have a question about Stormwreck :) - which I absolutely loved by the way :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stormwreck-eb...

Stormwreck really feels like an "atmospheric" kind of book (do you see what I mean or do I need to find another word?). Did you plan for it to be this way or is this just the way you write supernatural horror stuff? You don't really go into gory details (I mean you could expand, and make a real feast of it) is it by choice or is it something you'd find difficult to write?

message 261: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Shaun wrote: "Fame or fortune?"

I have no expectation of either. What I write is a bit too left field to ever really be mainstream or grab a big audience I think. If I could make enough money writing to give up work and write full time then that would be enough for me.

Mind you, with a big enough fortune I could get that cast for the Man From UNDEAD movie and even Stevie Spielberg to direct.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I adored you explanation of teleportation. It sounded completely feasible. Where did you nick it from? Star Trek, I know, but the explanation, I mean.

If you thought that up yourself, I'm in even greater awe of you.

I like scary movies. I'm not so keen on gory movies. If you look at things like THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE or THE TURNING OF THE SCREW there is no blood at all, but both are terrifying books. The imagination can do so much more than the words on the page.

I would refer you to Jenny's eloquent review of the book that says this much better than I ever could.

Teleportation is a staple of science fiction and it was used in STAR TREK because they couldn't afford all of the shots of shuttles landing on different planets each week.

I just borrowed the idea and put it into a 'real world' context, hence the luggage in Baltimore reference.

As to how it works, well that I made up from the limited amount of physics that my teachers managed to drum into me back in school.

STORMWRECK was written to see if I could do it, do something different. I did the same thing when I wrote the pantomime that Geoff went to see. I don't understand the appeal of pantomime, so I tried to write one to see if that would give me the insight.

Erm no, still don't get it.

Perhaps I didn't write a 'horror' book. Maybe it was more a 'fear' book.
