Plus it was too painful for her to look back.

I just want to add a little to what gertt said which I completely agree with. Not checking to see if he survived was an exercise of self-control. She was trying to be a good wife and mother by living in the present.

Diane | 1360 comments Actually I like the more realistic grounded older Jamie. He was young and innocent in Outlander but people grow up and mature. My husband and got married at 19 and I find many parallels in our relationship. We even had a seperation ( only 3 years compared to 20 though) having been married now 27 years is DG as writing very realistic characters that change over the period of time she is dealing with. I personally am glad of the changes because I can relate to them as they were and as they are.

Marie | 26 comments I fell in love with Jamie (and Claire) in Outlander. I was really let down that I had to miss 20 years with them. What could have been the romantic and hot 20 years that really helped me adjust to the inevitable "golden years".

But I still love their relationship. And I still love them as individuals. And they still have passion.

DG just deprived us of a dozen or so hot sex scenes while Jamie and Claire were in their youth. *sigh*

I hear ya... but in the historical context, it's doubtful that unless they fled to France or elsewhere that Jamie & Claire would have had any "hot" scenes. And somehow, I don't see Jamie leaving Lallybroch and his people behind.

Voyager made me appreciate that in-between time for both of them... and made it that much better when they were reunited.

Teresa McRae I sometimes feel, and I am still on my first time through the series, that what else could possibly happen? It's usually not long though before I get pulled back in.

Marie | 26 comments Hey Lori!

IDK, I lost 20 years. I agree that they would have been hard pressed (PTP) for many hot times, but I am sure there would have been non-sexual moments that would have been just as fulfilling.

Sadly, Voyager was my least favorite, and I was always a little let down with the JC reunion (though all was made up for in future books).
I love this series and am sooooo hoping STARZ gets it right--like GOT.

And for anyone that hasn't been checking up on me...I am beating the drum for folks to read These Is My Words by Nancy Turner. It is a cross between Outlander and Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose.
Best HF read in a long time--helped me swallow yet another release delay for written in my own Hearts Blood.

Julie Marshall | 3 comments Hi, I'm Julie. I know I am late to the party, but I have only just discovered the books thanks to the Starz TV series. I have just finished the first book 'Outlander' and I am itching for more. But the (view spoiler) is putting me off. Do I keep going, and if so, will I be ultimately disappointed?

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place. Most of us are rabid fans and all loved every single bit.

I'll try to be impartial... Once you get through the 20 years and get back to the Claire and Jamie story it should make up for it. And as the story goes on you'll understand why it did what it did. All of the books are awesome

Ellen (EllenChristine) | 245 comments @Julie, Hi! I'm new to the books as well, and an re-reading Outlander now, as I watch the series. I've just gotten The Outlandish Companion to stave off the itchy desire to read the rest of them. At the advice of one of these wonderful people, I'm waiting until hiatus ( tv) to read Dragonfly, which I have staring at me on the shelf, ready to go. It's my decision, and yes, I want to plow through the entire series as well, but I'm waiting for the first season on Starz to be done. Then I'll see how I feel about diving in whole hog. I'm trepidatious. But enthralled.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Welcome to the group! You're with likeminded people though most of us have all read the books.

Please watch out for spoilers!

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 13 comments Yes, I'm not sure I want to read book two because I figured out what was going to happen. And I confirmed it through spoilers. But I'm going to read it anyway.
