Amy Ingles (synchroqueen) wow! I have never done a challenge on goodreads but this looks fun! How do I make a list with links like you all did? just copy & paste?

message 102: by Evan (new)

Evan (medieval_geek) Amy, the html is as follows, only you need to add a < at the beginning and a > at the end (had to remove them so you could see the code rather than the result)

a href="insert link URL here">text here
Other people might use a slightly different code, but this is the one my friend gave me because I didn't know how to do it either

message 103: by Holly P (last edited Mar 09, 2012 04:42PM) (new)

Holly P (hlp0221) | 137 comments To do the links you just hit the link right above the comment box that says add book/author and then do a search for the book and hit add. It gives you an option at the bottom to do either the link or the cover image.

Or you can use the add book/author search link above the comment box, Amy.

You are correct, Ellen. Goodreads has it listed as 181 pages. I'll have to find something else.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Christina - for The Invisible Bridge, I'll allow the 2nd most popular edition, which is the Hardcover. The first is the audio, which is not going to have an accurate page count, since they are usually entered as # of discs or hours.

Also, as a general reminder to everyone - please check your lists to make sure that your classics fit the 50 year rule, if you're counting them as HF or for the bonus tasks.

When they were published, the book's setting must have been at least 50 years in the past.

So if a book was published in 1800, the book would need to be set in 1750 or earlier.

:)

What about books that have a present day story along with a past story. Examples include The Gargoyle or The Eight.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments I read the Eight and I believe it counted as HF.

Those are fine, as long as the HF portions meet the rule.

Chris Haught (haughtc) And they didn't get to the HF portions with a time machine...

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments There was no time machine involved.

Don't worry, Carole! There are a lot of features that seem obvious in hindsight that get overlooked until pointed out. I still discover new things on this site, and I've been here since 2008! LOL

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments You been on Goodreads almost as long as I have been on Facebook :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments We decided on starting the challenge on March 18 and going to June 18th

So we now have three months for this challenge? What made you change this?

Just finished my challenge list and will post it either later tonight or tomorrow.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments the timeframe was up for discussion and some people wanted to get started earlier but extend it to June.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments oh wait, I am sorry the last post I made was in error. I got confused. The HF challenge is still April 1st to May 31.

Margaret (readingwithmargaret) Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "oh wait, I am sorry the last post I made was in error. I got confused. The HF challenge is still April 1st to May 31."

The end of May? So not the end of April then?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3122 comments End of April. I told my YA group about our challenge and they adopted it with their own twist. Tnen I have SRC in my head that ends May 31 so I got all confused on my dates.

message 129: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
I think Jayme is referring to a different challenge. I have not made any changes to this challenge at all.

Lists need to be locked in by March 31st, challenge starts on April 1 and will end on April 30th.

message 130: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) OK - I am ordinarily a very confused person but now - fuggedaboutit. LOL

Will begin reading April 1st and end the challenge April 30th.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
LOL Yep. No changes here. :)

message 132: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Becky - do we have to read the books in order? I know it would be advantageous to do it this way but I'm just wondering. Thanks

message 133: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Nope - you can read in any order. The only requirement is that you have to read 5 of your list books before the bonus points will be awarded.

message 134: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks Becky. I think you have Wench on your TBR list. I downloaded this book on the recommendation of a friend and forgot all about it.

Rachel G (anplica) | 280 comments Qualification please!

2) Bonus Task: Choose one HF book from EACH of Jackie and Becky's TBR lists that you have not read, and read both books.
To earn this bonus, at least 5 of your OWN books must be completed, and one HF book from each of Jackie and Becky's TBRs must be completed. Once ALL 7 books are read, 100 points will be awarded.

Do the other 5 books have to be HF? As I am reading it, they do not, but want to verify. Thanks!

Rachel wrote: "Do the other 5 books have to be HF? As I am reading it, they do not, but want to verify. Thanks! "

No... Sorry for being confusing.

For the bonus task, ONLY the books chosen from my TBR or Jackie's TBR need to be HF.

The books from your list can be ANY genre.

You can read in whatever order you like: 20 through 1; 1 through 20; odd numbers first; alphabetically; bonus books first; author's astrological sign in reverse zodiac order... whatever you can come up with. LOL

But for bonus scoring purposes, you have to have 5 of your "any genre" list books read, plus both HF bonus books (one HF from my list and one HF from Jackie's) before the 100 point bonus score will be awarded.

Does that help? :)

http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

Just a warning: I'm still adding books. Also, I'm doing it rather quickly so you may find some books that will not qualify per our HF definition for the group. You may also find books on my To Read shelf that qualify and I just forgot to add them. But at least this will make it easier for you to search. :)
