What Was Your First PNR?
Andrea--the way you ended your post--are you suggesting that we need to join a 12 step program or something? If so, I have some rules for it. :oP
Step 1--read more books
Step 2--house cleaning--what's housecleaning--I can be READING instead. . .
Step 3-12--more reading
Step 1--read more books

Ann - I think those are good rules - except rule two. The mere mention of housework gives me the heebiee jeevies. maybe it can be something about chocolate, chocolate is good. and easy to eat while reading....

I think I need to get into audiobooks so that I can "try" to do some housecleaning.

Mine was Blood & Chocolate... I was probably like six when I read it (I'm such a bookworm)Really good book, anyway
Does Anne Rice Count? Well, I read those, and nothing else paranormal until right before Twilight the movie came out, and I read it, and the rest of the SAGA, then read the Anita Blake series, Sookie, PC Cast and the list just kept growing.
I used to be such a book snob and read only historical and accurate historical fiction never knowing what fun I was missing.... And never ever thought about reading PNR! I had gotten Karen Marie Moning's BEYOND THE HIGHLAND MIST as a mistake in an order and I started to read it...then couldn't put it down read it I think in one or two sittings... Then went right to B&N and bought the rest of the series and that was where it began! Not just PNR but time travel UF you name itl...I WAS HOOKED! I am so happy for whomever made the error in that book order that day... How could I have turned my nose up at these fabulous books! I never say never any longer!! I have widened my reading choices to include everything! Never saying I don't like something until after I tried it! What a thrill to find that there was so much more to love out there!!!

I read so many of the posts here and boy do I feel old. Most started reading with Twilight. I think I read maybe about half of the first book of Twilight light and couldn't take any more. Just not my taste. Heck when I started reading this genre it wasn't even a genre.Lisa T. High Fantasy is what they call what used to classified as straight Fantasy as in Sceince Fiction / Fantasy. They changed the classification when Urban Fantasy started to become so popular. Mainly High Fantasy would be Lord of the Rings and books like that.

My daughters turned me on to early paranormal/fantasy years ago and neither of them consider Twilight worthy. I haven't read them so I can't really comment. They are both devout Diana Wynn Jones and Tamora Pierce (among others) fans.
Jenny--I like your Pictogram. And I too feel a bit like there are a LOT of "babies" on this list. lol, before anyone gets
I'm not really sure what my first paranormal romance book was, it's either The Vampire Who Loved Me or Lover Eternal. These books didn't leave me craving for more PNR though, Anne Rice is what really got me fascinated with the vampire world. And Twilight is the book that left me with a craving for more paranormal stories with romance in them, which led me to discovering Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jeaniene Frost, Karen Marie Moning, Richelle Mead etc.
For me, my first PNR was from Christopher Pike. For the life of me, I can't remember the book title. As I got older, I moved out of the genre for a while and the first book that brought me back in was Dime Store Magic. Then I moved to the Dark Hunter series from Sherrilyn Kenyon. Then it was the twilight series, and now I am re-reading the Dark Hunter series again.
I really don't remember...I think it might have been something from one of those teen horror novel series...either Twilight: Where Darkness Begins (not the Stephenie Meyer series.) or something from the Dark Forces series. Then I moved from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles to Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series (and a lot of stuff in between). I find that I enjoy urban fantasies with elements of romance in them, more so than just flat out paranormal romance right now though.
I remember exactly: I started with
after a coworker lent the series to me. That was the gateway book to
and
Now I bounce back and forth between PNR and UF. I love my romance and smut, but I can only take so much, before I need a shot of UF.
I would have to say Charlaine Harris was the first PNR author I've read. I went through a period of time where I read nothing but fantasy until I found her books. Hey, has anyone read Anita Blake? A friend recommended her to me a long time ago and I was looking for a new series to start after I read all the Kim Harrison "Hollows" books.
Logan--the first 7 or so Anita Blake books are FANTASTIC. After that, LKH decided to stop having plots and doing any serious writing. The books after that became about getting Anita into bed with as many different people as possible. So there is a short (VERY short) story's worth of plot and a novel's worth of porn.
But those first 7 or so books really ARE great. LKH is a very talented writer when she lets herself care about plot, characters and her craft.

Logan, if you liked Kim Harrison, you should give Kelley Armstrong's series a try. It starts out with a werewolf book, but in the second book she introduces a variety of characters who get their own subsequent books: witches, demons, necromancers, etc
Or maybe The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. There's not much in the way of romance, but it's a great series.
Ann aka Iftcan wrote: "Logan--the first 7 or so Anita Blake books are FANTASTIC. After that, LKH decided to stop having plots and doing any serious writing. Reading this thread makes me feel ancient. X.X
I don't feel old. I certainly hope I don't look it but sheesh! I definitely lost my PNR cherry sometime during middle school [My name is Ly and yes, I'm a literal skank.] and I'm pretty durn sure it was with

- whose recent TV incarnations I refuse to watch so that the pre-teen love in which I regarded these series remains untainted and pure. ah hem. Plus it torques me to no end that TV Elena is a brunette WHEN CLEARLY SHE IS BLONDE ON THE COVER. Obviously, I am not bitter at all.

Oh and Lychee I actually started watching The Secret Circle because I stumbled onto it on hulu. I didn't even know there were books.
You never forget your first...My wife slipped Charmed (Donovans, #3) into my reading pile. Up to that point I was a sci-fy/ fantasy geek. I just had to find and read the whole series.
Maybe ten years ago, when I was around 13, I picked up the Mediator series by Meg Cabot and it got me hooked on paranormal romances for life!! A really fun/easy read if you're looking for something new!
is the first one I think!
Acquinnette wrote: "My fist was 2 years ago and it was "The Warload Wants Forever" by Kresley Cole..."Acquinnette, have you read all of the IAD series? They are just PNR crack for me...too addictive.
My very first paranormal romance was In the Forests of the Night, if you would consider that a paranormal romance...other than that, I have read the entire Twilight series, & Twin Souls.
My first was 13 long years ago. Guilty Pleasures. I was in Chapters in need of something to read while on winter break from school. I remember I picked it by cover art (the old cover not this one).
Interview With the Vampire This was my first intro to PNR when I was just a wee lass of 16! No turning back since :-)
K.A. wrote: "My very first paranormal romance was In the Forests of the Night, if you would consider that a paranormal romance..."Hey, I read In the Forests of the Night too! It was years ago, and I loved it. Guess that's my first as well.

Yes I have and I love the series... Nix and Regan are hilarious together...
A Hunger Like No Other was mine. When the hero took his leg off and had to wander around gimpy for the first half of the book I knew I found a new favorite author.

Yup, that kinda worked ;)
my first book was
not super romantic but it got me into paramormal then
& that was it, now can"t stop reading anything PNR.
♥ Lace ♥ wrote: "my first book was

Mine was Born In Twilight
when it was sent out in one of those romance monthly book club mailings. I've been hooked ever since. That was before everyone wrote in the genre and you had to search a little harder to find a vampire hero/heroine.
There are a lot of similar paths here. :) That's funny. I can't remember my first PNR. I'm sure it was Nora Roberts or someone like that.
Yeah Kiersten, I'm loving this little thread. It's neat to see how others got here. I think it should be followed up with a what is your favorite pnr. Although that's probably already done, somewhere.
Jenifer wrote: "The Sookie Stackhouse series. Then I moved on to Black Dagger Brotherhood."Both, just great but I must admit I haven't kept up with my Sookie :(

Started with Anne Rice's series
, then many moons later I read The Twilight Series and that brought me back to this genre. I have also read The Vampire Diaries, Sookie Stackhouse Series, and my absolute FAVORITE is J.R. Wards two series
and
Anne Rice's Witching Hour (part of the Mayfair Witches series) and then Shannon Drake's vampire series. After these two I was hooked on paranormal! !
