I heard somewhere that if you get over 40 "likes" on your author page, it bumps you up in terms of ranking and makes you easier to stop for the search engines?

Anyone know if there's any truth to that at all?

Just my opinion, but I don't think the "40 Likes" makes any difference at all. I hit that level about 6 months ago and there was no difference with my book. I think one of the best tools, is the "listmania" lists you can create. My book is showing up on a lot of the same pages as many of the "Best Sellers" for my books genre now as a result of them.

Hi Graham,
You can simply scroll down on virtually any Amazon page and you'll see a prompt for "Create a Listmania List on this page?" Or you can go to your Amazon profile page and create them along with the "So you'd like to..." pages which are very usefull also.
Here is the link to view my Profile and all of my Listmania lists and "How to" lists to give you an idea how you could set them up. Listmania lists are very quick and easy to create. The "How to" lists take a lot more thought, effort and writing. I hope this helps, a little.

One thing I do know is, as an author, more likes looks better on your profile/author page. It's rather like a vote of confidence. I doubt it has any effect on Amazon rankings, but it could tip the balance when a new reader is considering buying one of your books.

When you like books from Amazon UK it will highlight but the number will only change & show if you buy the book. But if they have tags showing you can click the tags and that will help them.

I work full time with my publishing firm and work this Goodreads group as a side project because I really do love the concept of authors being in charge of their own success. That being said I noticed a few authors mentioned distribution as something they would like publishers to help out more with. I do quite a bit of traveling to international book fairs and specialize in helping authors and sm/medium sized publishers “go global”.

I will be hosting a webinar on book rights (translation rights) and distribution into China on August 6th at 2:00 pm EST. I wanted to give my appreciation and gratitude to all of the authors in this group for their continued dedication and participation on these threads so I thought this might be a really cool thing to do. Hi D. Did you know there is a more recently used and very active thread doing this liking elsewhere in the group? You will probably have better results there as this one looks old (or you could try both!). It' s listed under the second of the 'General' sections and is called something like 'swap Amazon author likes' started by a guy called Joseph..... I'll like you from here anyway but probably a good idea to try there as well. My details are on the thread too - grateful for a like back ;-) . Good luck. It takes a while but really does work....
