Like button on Amazon author profile...

Did you know there is also a Like button on the top right side of your author profile at Amazon? I was over on the Kindle Boards and someone mentioned it. (I've never even noticed it before.) So, not only can we "like" each others books when we tag them, we can also "like" the author page as well.

Natalie, if you liked and tagged me it doesn't show! When you hit the like button you have to be signed in to your Amazon account and the amount of (likes) will immediately increase by (one). The same is true in the number showing for each tag. If you could try it again!

It's almost impossible to keep any thread on topic. The subject matter tends to wander as the posts pile up.

Oddly the "like" button in only present on the US version of Amazon's site. The UK one has that section completely missing.

Do any readers actually take any notice of it? I can understand the value of the likes count beside a product, but it would never occur to me to see how many likes an author has.

Lol. Yes, they all seem to turn another direction. I don't mind doing author pages or tags. I don't have an author page as I have another series under a pen name for a different Genre. ;) I would do reviews too, if someone needed.

It's my understanding that "like" and "tags" help determine Amazon ranking.

When I am buying a book, I do look at how many people "like" the book. Books that I have read, that have had dozens of likes, have turned out to be good reading material.

I was speaking of book rankings. The ranking for authors is a mystery as far as I am concerned. That would be measured by monetary success? Suzanne Collins, JK Rowlings..... I can measure their succes in terms of popularity and monetary compensation.

In Amazon's case it could be by number of "like"s but I don't really see what that would actually mean!

It couldn't be by earnings as it could give away too much information (I certainly would not want another author to know they were earning more/less than me).

I might be wrong, but I think that rank is determined solely by sales, and rank changes by the hour. I'm not quite sure what the "like" buttons do, other than give readers a chance to weigh in without having to bother writing a review.

Regarding Google Plus (B&N) and Likes (Amazon and B&N), I think they may influence search engine rankings but I don't think they influence book rankings at book retail websites. That said, I think more than sales influence the rankings, but not sure what other components go into the rankings.
