At the beginning, a teen girl comes home from school, wants a Twinkie. Her mom, the nurse, tells her to eat an apple, her body will thank her. Finds out a long-lost uncle died and has to go with mom to Edinburg, Virginia for the summer to clean out his house. He was like a hoarder. So many books, and the girl finds a mystery.

Her name might be Chris? Kris? Tess? Read this in the mid to late '80s, YA book.
