30.2 Sassafrass's task: “What I want to be” meets “What did I become”...
I see the book's main page doesn't say she is a ballet dancer--- but I found this about the movie-http://www.fast-rewind.com/sixweeks.htm
thanks Kathy ;) At one time I wanted to be a ballerina but I think I fall into the most uncoorindated category...I was the kid that went left when everyone went right on stage
Dee-I'd check and make sure the mods accept this book for a ballerina. I'd hate to steer you wrong.
BTW- I checked my library and they do carry it.
I remember the movie. She was a very serious ballet dancer. She doesn't have to be an adult, so it's fine. :)
Anyone have any suggestions for good books featuring doctors ??I graduate in December, and what to become a dietician or health educator, so would The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals work for that ??
If you like to be creeped out--- The Cradle Will Fall by Mary Higgins Clark is good. The main character is a doctor.
Mandy Sue wrote: "Anyone have any suggestions for good books featuring doctors ??I graduate in December, and what to become a dietician or health educator, so would [book:The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History ..."
Mandy, It has to be about a character, not a subject, so no that wouldn't work. But, if you could read about anyone in the health sciences/medicine.
Sassafrass-Would a book like this work for a doctor? Just curious. This looked good!
Memoirs of a Woman Doctor

Yes, that would work, it sounds interesting.
I think I will read:for horsewoman - The Horse Whisperer
f0r nurse - Kate: The Journal of a Confederate Nurse
I work now as a radio dispatcher for a tollroad and before I was a toll collector. I've been looking all night for a book ... There are lots of books with a mention of these jobs, but not much else.

thanks, will look for perfect book :)
So I have a problem -- my professional career is in contracts...writing, negotiating, etc. That's not a career most people find exciting or that they want to write a book about.
I'm completely stuck on how to complete the 2nd part of the task.
ANy thoughts?

How about a book on writing? Best Books on Writing or Books about Books and Authors

Ok, looks like I'm reading two medical books since growing up I wanted to be a doctor.
I found [book:Oxygen by Carol Cassella and Intern With The Vampire by Kit Iwasaki (both GR authors!) that sound pretty interesting.
okay for what I wanted to be... I wanted to be a writer or a journalist... Can I read either of these... The Carrie Diaries this one is the story of how carrie bradshaw became a writer or Babe in Boyland this one she writes for the school advise column.
and for what I am trained for now in the law department
Clarity She helps the police solve a case

both of those work.
Laurie wrote: "I work now as a radio dispatcher for a tollroad and before I was a toll collector. I've been looking all night for a book ... There are lots of books with a mention of these jobs, but not much else."Laurie, you could use any book in which the person collects money: cashier, vendor, etc. if that doesn't net you anything let me know and we can work on it.
Kathy G. wrote: "I found this one-The Dispatcher"
Thanks, Kathy! Laurie, that sounds like the perfect book!

I read Intern with a Vampire, and it was really cute! I am waiting for the next book in the series but it's been delayed!
JennRenee wrote: "okay for what I wanted to be... I wanted to be a writer or a journalist... Can I read either of these... It has to be the person's job.

were the other options okay for the first book?

Would
be close enough? It does deal with banking and money dealings (toll collector); or would
be okay?
I work in a bakery in a supermarket, does anyone know of any books that would fit this? I can't find any.
Laurie wrote: "Would

Pollyanna, I tried Listopia and searched for "cooking fiction", which brought up several lists of books related to food. Maybe you could find something on one of the lists.Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray is about a baker.
Pollyanna wrote: "I work in a bakery in a supermarket, does anyone know of any books that would fit this? I can't find any."You could do any fiction where the person bakes or cooks.
Mystery: Murder Takes the Cake--she's running her own cake business.
Romance-- anything by Louisa Edwards features chefs. I read Too Hot To Touch and Some Like It Hot--this one is specifically about a pastry chef.
If you wanted to do nonfiction, you could read a memoir//biography about a chef

I haven't a clue, it's been forever since I read it. Thanks anyway.

Thankyou Bea, I'll look at listopia

If you like mysteries, you might try "mysteries and food" search. Diane Mott Davidson featured heavily but I saw others that looked like they might involve baking.
Joanne Fluke also has a series of mysteries involving a bake shop owner.Baking Cakes in Kigali would probably work, Pollyanna. It's set in Rwanda.
i was hoping for some clarification....in the task you state that someone with your profession needs to be "featured," and then in a comment later on in this thread you state that that person with your profession needs to be "central." i'm a teacher, and i was wondering if any of the harry potter books would work, as he's surrounded by professors most of the time. to me the professors would qualify as being "featured," though not necessarily "central" in all of the books. don't know if any of this post made sense! thanks for your help! :)
kiki wrote: "i was hoping for some clarification....in the task you state that someone with your profession needs to be "featured," and then in a comment later on in this thread you state that that person with ..."yes, I'm going to change the wording with the mods. I think that the person needs to be central. However, I would say that in the Harry Potter books, the professors are pretty central especially Dumbledore.
I wanted to be teacher when I was young and I became one. I actually wrote in a 3rd grade autobiography that I would be a teacher when I was 21 and I wasn't far off, LOL. My early teachers must have really made an impression on me :)I found a bunch of Romance novels with a teacher as one of the central characters if anyone needs a teacher. All the ebook only choices have been pre-approved in the ebook thread. All pending Sassafrass' approval :)
Purgatory by Jet Mykles
Double Dipping by Marilyn Brant
His Son's Teacher by Kay Stockham
Mom Meets Dad by Karen Rose Smith
Impetuous by Lori Foster

I don't know if this would work--- but Mary Tyler Moore was in a movie Called Six Weeks about her daughter dying of cancer who was a ballet dancer. Does the ballet person have to be an adult?
Here's the book-
Six Weeks
Worth a try
