Today we are 2. I started this group 2 years ago today. I am surprised and pleased that we are still here. When I started this group, I figured that I was mostly going to talk to myself and that this was mostly a blog space that only I would be posting on because I really thought nobody would want to hear what I had to say, and the only members I would have are my off-screen friends who have heard it all before.
I believe what I have to say is important. I just never dreamed that others would thinks so too. For those who know me off-screen, they will tell you I can and do talk a lot, about everything and anything. I am really good at trivia games (not called "Jeopardy Girl" for nothing) and of course I read a lot (obviously, or I wouldn't even be here on this site) so I know a little about a great lot. I love to learn and I am good teacher as well.
I have big dreams for this little group. Someday I hope to have a web site for us, a Facebook fan page, a blog, and hopefully 501c status, which is non-profit status. I would like to see this group become a nationally, or even internationally known group not only for our standing up for our rights, but as an empowerment group for all. Yes, my main focus is on the rights and empowerment for larger people, but we need to empower all of us if we are to end the stereotypes that still persist. I would love to see this group not only help fight discrimination, help with legal battles, and public protesting that actually gets us somewhere, but I would love to show the world a philanthropic side to larger people as well. I would love to see a scholarship fund, encourage changes in the fashion industry, set up food banks, and other community outreach that reminds people that we are people and that we are NOT defined by our size.
Dr. King said in his "I Have a Dream" speech that he hoped one day for his children to live in a world where they were judged on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin. I too have dream that someday ALL of us will only be taken on the content of our characters and not the size of our bodies, the color of our skin, the length of our hair, the orientation we are, the religion we practice or the politics we favor, but as people.
Yes, I have big dreams for this group, but I am willing to start small, and this group is the first step.
Thank you to all of you who are here, to all who were here from the start and to all of you who will be here in the future.

I hope I will still be a leader worth following.
