Terri Haynes (thaynes) | 5 comments Oh, I have so many.
My top two from the book are the proposals. Mr. Collins' is particularly more painful that Darcy's. Also, although not a scene, the first line of the book. I loved the way they worked that in to the '95 version.

Speaking of the '95 version, some of the one-liners make some scenes great. For instance, "No lace! No lace, Mrs. Bennett, I beg you." That ways makes me laugh. Also, Lady Catherine provides so many one-liners, like "Are the shades of Pemberly to be thus polluted?" Hilarious.

i love collins Proposal- its so painful and funny!

I agree about the first line, they got that in cleverly in the 95 one!

i love Mr bennet! and that line from Lady C always makes me laugh!

and I love Lizzie's line...
'I am determined that nothing but the deepest love will induce me into matrimony'
so great

Love it!

Oh yes, I love that bit, you can just see in Darcy's face - "Oh crap, she heard me." :D It was vaguely cruel of Lizzy to say that, but then again it was vaguely cruel of Darcy to say it, so she's completely justified - and they do redeem themselves over the course of the film! :)

But I always go "Ooooo, Ouch" in my head whenever I watch that bit. :D Still, it's a little sad how Lizzy looks upset as she is walking away :(.

:D Even if Elizabeth kind of hated Darcy in that moment, I did love it - they have wonderful chemistry! Although I would use the word dramatic... :)

Lariela | 45 comments Book.. When Lizzy goes to Netherfield to take care of Jane.

95 Mini-series... Lizzy playing piano with Georgiana. And Darcy is just sitting on the couch with that little smile, trying not to look so smitten and/ or like he needs to take a cold shower.

Sophie | 1458 comments THe conversations that take place at Netherfield between Darcy and Lizzy are classic and so fun to read! I love thy sequence as well!

And that smile... *sigh* ....

message 187: by Sophie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sophie | 1458 comments Love those parts as well! I love the 2005 proposal scene especially because it shows how a scene can be incredibly romantic without a kiss! :)

Rebecca May It would have been interesting to see what the story would have been like if Darcy had got really pissed off at Lizzy...

Lizzy is so to be admired in the verbal sword fight with Lady C!

message 191: by Yukti (new) - rated it 4 stars

Yukti (yukti_coolkudi) This discussion and people's views are very diverse and skimming through them, I realised that I love each and every bit of Elizabeth's world. However, my favorite part of the book is at the end, when Darcy asks Elizabeth if her feelings have changed. The line which describes his feelings is a classic by Austen. Pardon me if I am wrong but she describes his happiness as that of a man "violently in love".
However, in the movie version (2005), I love the part when Darcy comes for Elizabeth in the end. This is quite different from the book version where Elizabeth and Darcy are forced to take a walk by Mrs Bennett along with Kitty and as soon as Kitty goes to the Lucas Lodge, Elizabeth thanks Darcy and he proposes again.

Charity Andrews (goodreadscomatransparentmom) | 8 comments OMGoodness. What about when Mr Collins waves. That is just so disturbing! And every time Lady Catherine interrupts him, he puts his hand over his mouth like a karate chop. ha! (1995 version, of course...)

E. Kaye (ekuehne) | 1 comments If we can discuss the movie versions too, then I have to say, one of the funniest and ridiculously well played moments is in the BBC version when Mr. Collins has his mouth crammed with ham and Lizzie is telling them that she has been cooped up too long and needs some sun. He's sitting there chewing feverishly and grunting and it just cracks me up to think about it!! He is so well played!! Love it.

message 194: by Sophie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Agreed, 100% hysterical!

Azariah (azellarose) | 2 comments Victoria_Grossack wrote: "I love it when Lizzie stands up to Lady Catherine"

Yes, that was one of my favourite moments too! I love Lizzy's wittiness and eloquence. Much to Lady Catherine's surprise she's very wellspoken for someone who never had a governess.

message 197: by Lani (last edited May 30, 2013 03:19PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lani (lani14) | 57 comments It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.

I have to say that is one of the my favorite moments in the book. The line is so funny in a "what did I just read?" kind of way. It took me a second to realize that "in want of," meant "in need of." By the time I go through the next line, I was smiling. I knew I would need to keep up and pay attention or I would miss the gems.

Austen's wit is the real attraction for me in Pride and Prejudice.
p.s. my version of the famous line:
Everybody knows, a single dude with money doesn't stay a single dude with money ;)

Megan | 6 comments At the end when Lizzy that if it weren't for her letter to her aunt that she needed to write, she sit and admire the evenness of the lines in Darcy's letter to his aunt.

....Makes me laugh every time I read it.

message 199: by Sophie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sophie | 1458 comments Love that bit!

QNPoohBear | 739 comments Any time Lizzy is on page speaking but other favorite moments:

Lizzy and Caroline walking around the room and Lizzy teasing Darcy
Darcy meditating on a pair of very fine eyes
Mr. and Mrs. Bennet after Lizzy rejects Mr. Collins
When Darcy hands Lizzy his letter
When Darcy sees Lizzy and Aunt and Uncle Gardner at Pemberley and tries so hard to please them while trying to second guess Elizabeth's reaction. He's so adorable awkward, especially the way Colin Firth plays him.
Finally "I can not fix upon the time or the place. I was in the middle before I knew I had begun." Awww!

Um how come none of you have mentioned this as your favorite scene in an adaptation?

;)

Or this one from Lost in Austen

post-modern moment! I laughed so hard.

or this? I nearly fell of the couch
