Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) Hiya, I'm Amanda ❤️! Books are my way to make friends, because I'm a very very *very* shy person, so I don't often have a lot of friends :)

Niranjana Siva (niranju) | 13 comments Hello, everyone! I am Niranjana Selvakumar. I am very excited to join this group as I live reading Young adult fantasy stories. And I don't think I can post all of my favorite books as the list will keep dragging on. But to name a few, I should probably start with The Avalonia chronicles, the one that I recently read, Rick Riordan books, The Lunar Chronicles, The Geisha Trilogy and so on. And I am not being subjective to the list of favorite authors. Any book I read, if I love the story, the author definitely becomes my favorite. Cheers to this wonderful group and I am glad I found it sooner than later!

message 6763: by Tria (new)

Tria (tcpallesen) | 5 comments Hello all, I’m Tria and I love reading especially epic fantasy, mystery and a little romance.
I’ll be honest, I definitely don’t fit into the young adult category, but I love the way novels are written for younger people, and I’m a teacher so I use that as my “excuse”, mostly to my husband, for why I read young adult so much! I’m a huge fan of the Ember in the Ashes series, anything Marie Lu writes, and of course, pretty much anything with magic in it!

message 6772: by Duncan (new)

Duncan MacLeod (duncanwritesbooks) Hi, My name is Duncan MacLeod. I'm a New Adult author who recently cleaned up his act and wrote a Young Adult novel. I already talked about it in the author section, so in accordance with the forum rules, I will refrain from mentioning my books by name.

I love to read YA Fiction. It was a huge leap of faith for me to write a book that would appeal to all ages but was still edgy enough for my tastes. If I had to pick my very favorite YA book, it would be "James and the Giant Peach". As a child, I read it at least 30 times. I know this because Dolores, the librarian at my tiny public library, had to replace the checkout card twice.

As an adult I haven't really read anything more than once. I think that must just be a kid thing.

My advice to aspiring writers? Get your grammar in shape. I was forced to diagram sentences in my youth, and I found it incredibly tedious at the time. Now it's the one thing that lets me know when a semicolon should replace a comma, or when a prepositional phrase has mixed modifiers. The dreaded/beloved book: Warriner's English Grammar and Composition.

message 6776: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannesimpson) Hey there! I'm Marianne. I am 23 and live in California--hoping to relocate to New York City sometime in the near future! The lockdown period has given me so much free time to really get back into my love of reading and I've been catching up on all the popular YA books since the Hunger Games came out. I am a Percy Jackson lover forever and always, but recently I've fallen in love with the Folk of the Air series, the Six of Crows duology, and anything Sarah J. Maas. I mostly prefer YA Fantasy but I am trying to branch out into more YA thriller and contemporary romance! Feel free to add me as a friend--I'm looking forward to having somewhere to talk about books with other people who read the same stuff!

message 6777: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahisareader) Hey everyone! I'm Sarah and I live in VA. I'm a teacher so I find young adult books a great way to connect to my students. Recently I've been focusing on books that relate to current events happening right now. I like fantasy/dystopian YA books, but I also like more realistic ones. I want to be in this group so I can keep up with what books my students (or other people their age) are reading so I can keep up with them, and also keep informed of good books for young adults so I can make recommendations.

message 6782: by Sarah (last edited Jul 10, 2020 06:48AM) (new)

Sarah | 2 comments Hi! I'm Evie. :) I'm definitely addicted to YA. If it is fantasy, mythology-based, or a retelling - I am in! Currently reading Blood and Honey :)

It's far too hard to decide on one favorite book and one favorite author. If I was going to classic route, I would pick Vladimir Nabokov. As for more modern, that's a tough one. Hester Fox is up there this year for sure. Anything written by Madeline Miller, Gail Carriger, and Leigh Bardugo are all instant reads for me!

message 6783: by Felix (new)

Felix Update: Probably not too many people care about The Fifth Season here, so I'll list my favorite YA books: The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters, The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee, and Let's Talk about Love by Claire Kann

message 6788: by A.D. (new)

A.D. Wills (willsvi) | 2 comments Hi everyone, hope to meet some new people here!

I'm a new author, who's been writing for a while, but only just now have worked seriously to publish a couple of books. One of which, Between the Veil, which was a pretty big departure from my usual style of writing, seeing as it's in first person. The other, a YA Fantasy novel with multiple character perspectives.

Anyway, enough of that.

I love to write, and talk about favorite books, manga, shows, or whatever else. I'm always looking to try out new genres, and I'm hoping to maybe exchange reviews with fellow new authors, or others seeking to exchange ideas.

Feel free to drop a comment. I'll do my best to try and keep up and connect!
