Catching Fire question

Whoa, just figured this out after reading Catching Fire for the 4th time.

Remember when Madge gave Katniss the pin? Well something about the way she said it made me think Madge knew more about the pin that she was letting on. Maybe since her father was the mayor, she knew about the uprising and stuff. Well, when Katniss tried to give the pin back to Madge, she said keep it, and Katniss asked where she got it. Madge said it was her aunts, and it had been in the family for a long time. Later, after watching Haymitch's Hunger Games, at the reaping, we saw a girl named Maysilee Donor go up and then saw Katniss' mother and Maysilee's sister, who looked like Madge. They then figured out that that was Madge's mother, and Maysilee was Madge's aunt. So the pin was Maysilee's. What was the significance to it? Did Madge know about what the pin was for? Had it been used before???
