Jim Cherry (jymwrite) | 2 comments The reason I write is because it's what I've wanted to do since I was 13, and I started writing then too it was a Mad Magazine parody of Richard Nixon, I traced the cartoons and added my own dialogue.

I write because I think I have something to say to this world about our time in history. If you think about it, it's kind of conceited to think that one individual can have something to say to the rest of the world! But plenty of us do it!

I want to have some effect of the things going on during my time here, to see my ideas take root in the collective consciousness.

Does that answer the question? Will it ever answer the question?

Carolyn (perunest) | 7 comments I think you've touched on the primal reason for writing, Jim. You simply must. I started writing novels because the act of writing and coming up with a world I created was an invigorating activity. I looked forward to it every day. I wrote only for myself. Then, I wanted to share my writing - having someone else read my stuff was exciting and scary. After two years of seeking publication, my first two novels are under contract. Dark Paradise will be released as an ebook on Feb. 1, and Trinity James will be released later this year in paper and ebook formats. I'm in shock - but I found that I write for pure entertainment - first myself, then, I hope, everyone else.
