The Host has been cast!
That is so unbelievably good! I love them! Except for jebs character. I imagined him more skinny. Ya know, being starved and all.
I'm not really a fan of who they picked for the main parts of Melanie, Ian, or Jared. But hopefully they are good actors for the parts. I'm not saying they arn't good looking, just I pictured them (Jared&Ian) being much hotter :) And Melanie a bit older looking.
@Deondra. I agree. I also thought the characters would be a bit older. I liked the book but I'm not sure how well it's going to translate to a movie.
Exactly. Especially Jared, Max Irons has to much of a baby face to be late 20's. How old was Jared like 26 right? Somewhere around there..And I agree about how it will translate into a movie, hopefully though despite the cast; it comes out good. But we shall see lol.
I expected an older and more worldly looking Jared! I always imagined him to look, i dont know... Tougher! Not what i pictured for Melanie at all, they've picked a V cute Ian tho!
I just hope they don't ruin the film as they always do!
Max Irons is so HOT! You'll fall in love with him if you watch 'Red Riding Hood'; Please rent the film, RRH, trust me - he will be perfect as Jared :o)
At first i was disappointed with the casting, But so far with the new updates, I'm happy with the cast now. It seems they truly care about doing the book justice. I'm really looking forward to it now. =D

but they're all like too white and pale- to think that theyre making another twilight movie or something!
This is a tough one because I expected Melanie to be a brunette, more tanned and more mature looking, and this goes for everyone else. But then again, this ALWAYS happens when they do a movie adaptation of books---fans don't get their way and we only have Hollywood to blame. Although, I quite like Saoirse Ronan because of her amazing performance in The Lovely Bones. Well, my main complaint is just that I expected everyone to be more tanned and muscular but it's nothing makeup can't fix! I just hope that they do this book justice because it IS in my top 5. I can't wait... I've been waiting for a movie adaptation of The Host to come out for years now!
Jared needs to look older!Melanie's too... i don't know i don't like her....
and Kyle needs to look more... muscular, just my opinions

Jamie's actor is 13, Jamie's younger in flashbacks but is 14 in the present.
Saoirse Ronan wouldn't be my first choice, but you can see how she's matured since the lovely bones, and hopefully, this'll be her coming-of-age project. same goes for Jake Abel, but seeing him on Tru Loved and Percy Jackson, I'm pretty confident he can pull both sides of Ian's personality off. Jared, on the other hand is in danger of being Edward-fied. :l

I pictured Melanie a bit older looking :) Saoirse Ronan looks a bit too young in my opinion, but I'm sure she'll do a great job! :) as for Ian and Jared...totally different in my head, but I'm sure Max and Jake will pull it off :) I'll keep my thoughts for when we get the trailer ;)

Read the book again and pay attention to the way the characters are being described. Thats what I was going for - so pardon me if you got it wrong.
This is exciting! What about Wanda??? I also pictured the guys more muscular and a little older looking, more manly... Hopefuly they pull it off!
I read somewhere that Liam Hemsworth auditioned for the role of Jared and I thought he would have been perfect for the role. I just imagined someone like him when I read the book. But I don't know what happened and they ended up giving it to Max Irons and I have to say I'm a little dissapointed. :(
They'll make it work.. They'll have to do because otherwise there will be a LOT of disapointed fans!!
wow the entire cast is nearly albino,compared to the characters in the book! my biggest gripe ,is the actress casted to play melanie. like was it really so hard to find a good tanned actress? wasnt melanie stryder mexican or something? ( maybe im confusing this with another book). but for sure melanie is very tanned skin. with dark hair and hazelish eyes. with a tough girl look about her and physically fit. and the guy they casted for jared. WOW that dude looks like he's barely hit puberty. jared is supposed to be manish and tall and near his 30's right? the guy they picked for ian, smh FAIL. he looks even younger than that max guy.in my mind, while reading the book i imagined. kristin kreuk or evangeline lily as melanie. and jensen ackles as jared.ian somerhalder as ian , and someone like bjork or a short Catherine Ann Keener as the seeker . idk this is extremely dissapointing for me ,i had been hoping for soooo long that this amazing book would be turned into a movie with the actors i had in mind (or at least actors with a close resemblance to the characters in the book) but no.
It has been awhile since I read the book, may need to do a re-read before the movie comes out, any idea on the release date? As far as casting, I did picture the characters older, and Melanie a bit stronger I agree with the Evangeline Lily suggestion, for some reason she was also brunette in my mind. Not sure if the book described her that way or if that was just my imagination. Again it's been awhile so the character's images are not real strong in my mind. They all do look rather young, however I was encouraged when I saw the Red Riding Hood credits for Max Irons because I did see that movie and he was attractive in the role. Overall I'm still excited about the movie since I did like the book, but since I was not as obsessive about this book (*whispers* like I was with Twilight Saga) I probably won't be as critical of the movie and be more accepting of plot/character adjustments.

Exciting! Finally some real progress and a date for when we'll see it. I loved this book. I haven't seen the films most of these actors have been in, so I don't have an opinion on most of them, but I like William Hurt.
Oh a movie, really? Ooo .. not sure I'd run to see it. The book was .. awful ( I thought ).
Its been a while since I read the book... and eventhough I was very excited to hear it was going to me made in to a movie, I just dont see how the essance of the book is going to translate to the big screen... there is just so much inner dialog between Wonderer and Melanie that I cant see a good potrayal of it without it being narorated or.... something. I guess my lack of imagination is why I am not a Producer/Director? LOL... But I will Still be anxiously awaiting this release.As for the casting i'm not very happy with them... just "look" wise... Im shallow... and not to say the guys cast are good looking... they just arent who I imagined....... with that being said if their acting skills are up to par then I can see myself falling for them :)
I haven't read the book in such a long time. I am going to read it again. I hope the movie is good as the book though.

Saorise Ronan looks exaactly like I imagined Wanda when they put her in her new body at the end of the book.. Diane Kruger looks more like Melanie, stronger, not as delicate looking if you know what I mean?

Whoa i never thought it was going to happen but it is the cast not what i was expecting and pictured at all Melanie/wanderer is too pale i thought her to be more athletic and tan Jared looks too boyish and not ruggerd enough Ian is ok i guess but i was so hoping for Ian somerhalder to play him

i totally agree.. but i guess theyre making them wear linses, wig's and all that.. and the movie wont come out until 2013 - i doubt that they even started making the movie yet, so maybe theyre going to change some of the characters???
Well, they can't really like COPY everything so that it looks EXACTLY like the book. Just found out that'd be an IPR violation or something. (*sigh) oh well...

I'm okay with most of these. I just don't like Jared :/ Yeah, he's hot and everything, but he just looks too "male model."

I think catherine hardwick had something to do with it, since she directed RHR and Twilight.
My favorite character is probably Ian and I had very high expectations of whoever would play him because in my head, he's very... unique, I guess is the best way to describe it. Also, I had imagined him to look completely different from the actor who is going to play him, which is a little disappointing. But that doesn't mean I'm not excited! While I know very little of the majority of the cast for this movie, I think it can be good :) Can't wait to see it!

I was unsure of the actress they got to play Melanie as well but then I saw her in Hanna and she rocked. I now have faith that she'll pull it off. She seems like a serious actress so I can see her doing really well. Not exactly how I pictured Melanie but I will reserve judgement until the movie comes out. I don't have a clue about the actors playing Jared or Ian though. And I'm so excited that they got Diane Kruger to play the seeker. I can totally see that. I have high hopes for this movie!

Andrew Niccol He's also doing the screenplay. So we don't have to worry about it being ruined like Twilight.

wonder how they're gonna shape up for these roles though? i mean they all look sort of...young-ish. like teenagers. in the book they were what in their twenties, right? heck, Jared was almost thirty. better hit the gym, folks. :)
