You know that Jace is in fact a decendant of Will Heronale?

rai ♡ I wondered, but I wasn't sure. Wow... I guess Jace really is related to Will. That's so cool! That's where he gets his good looks from. ;)

I agree!

Margarita I love the Infernal Devices a little bit more since Clockwork Angel was the first book I ever read by Cassandra Clare. The characters to me seem a little more mature and makes the story more fun to read.I loved the first book of the other series too.Its good and it has a fast pace mood to it.THe book is filled with comical moments too.

Wardatul R Around a month ago, I would've said I DEFINITELY liked TID better than TMI, but as I'm a little less biased now... I still choose TID over TMI. I guess it's because the main relationship in TMI (Jace and Clary) is just too angsty for my liking, and the one in TID (Will/Jem and Tessa) feels more pure and expressive. Besides, the characters in TID are just much more lovable. Their idiosyncrasies, their good and bad traits just really hook you. I mean, I hated Jessie (TID) because she was just a GOOD hate-able character. She was meant to be hated, and I really really do hate her, and that's what I like about TID. I read TID before TMI, so I guess it was kind of good for me because I was following the timeline. TID thus far is less complex in terms of point; the Enclave's sole purpose so far has only been trying to capture the Magister, whereas TMI has got 1) Them trying to stop Valentine 2) Them having to deal with Sebastian (or Jonathan). So, in terms of creativity and fantasy, TMI deserves two thumbs up. But in terms of romance, drama, pace (and a whole lot other reasons I can't really pinpoint now hahaha) my vote goes to TID.
MY POINT: The Infernal Devices > The Mortal Instruments. (For now. We'll see in 2013, okay?)

message 69: by Wardatul (new)

Wardatul R OTHER THAN THAT. Jem and Will's relationship with each other as parabatai is just so much better than that of Alec and Jace's. And the love triangle wasn't so exciting, but I guess that had never really been the sole point Cassie Clare was trying to make in TMI.

It was? So... I shouldn't try to read City of Fallen Angels? I mean, I kinda want to, but if it's gonna be bad then I won't waste my time. What do ya think? Is it a to read or not to read?

Margarita Marshanah wrote: "Wardatul wrote: "Marshanah wrote: "I've read the first three books of the Mortal Instruments series and the first two books of The Infernal Devices series, and I liked them both. I have to pick up ..."

I've read the book and I don't think it sucks. It's really good in my opinion. I guess the readers wanted Jace and Clary to have a happily ever after after City of Glass, but if Cassandra had ended it there, it would have left the readers with many doubts like if Sabastian actually die or if he survived (*spoiler* his a life sorta)(read the book). And whats a good book without the extra drama? It makes the story much interesting. In my opinion the fourth book has got to be the best one yet. If you do read the book, don't read it with dread or hate, read it with understanding. Maybe a reason why the readers don't especially like the book because we don't get much of Clary and Jace moments, but more of Simon and the choices he has to make to help out his friends. I recommend you read it. Just because everyone else is hating on it, doenst mean you will. Some readers don't like characters to grow or to develope in any sort of way. They want the characters to stay the same throughout the story, which is stupid cus that makes a story lose its audience.

Margarita People go on every website you can find about the casting for The mortal instruments and comment that you want Logan Lerman (Hoot)(Percy Jackson) to play Simon Lewis!!He totally fits the part!!How I imagined Simon to look!

Margarita They have already picked Jamie-Campbell and Lily Collins to play Jace and Clary. Wow, best cast choices that they have made so far. They both fit the parts perfectly. Totally how I imagined them to look like!:) Just look at Jamie and visualize him as Jace. That might help you like him a little bit more. if you really look at him, its like seeing the real Jace right in front of your face!

As Simon? Hmmmmm.... Not a bad fit. He'd have to wear glasses, though. If Simon looks like that, it makes Clary look like a freakin' idiot for picking Jace. Jace has to be hotter than Simon. If Logan Lerman were to play Simon, he'd be a hot Simon. He'd just have to act all geeky.

Well obviously they're going to make Jamie look hotter than Logan. Yeah but omg he is perfect for the role!:)

Margarita I know of one song that would be perfect for the books;) You bring fire by Ivory line;) I think it fits the books but kinda fits the fourth book more;)

Lyrics:
I feel a deep meaning in my soul,
I don't know what's happening, I can't let this go.
And I, oh I am losing control,
I've tried to run away but,

You bring fire,
To my bitter and drafty
Soul, it's time,
I chose your light as my own.

You alone can bring me to my knees,
Where I can exchange my worries,
For the peace beyond all understanding,
You know what I mean.

And I, oh I am losing control,
I've tried to run away but,

You bring fire,
To my bitter and drafty
Soul, it's time,
I chose your light as my own.

You bring fire,
To my cold soul.

Keep your love so close,
Until you've felt it in your heart,
Everyone I call,
The sound of him is trapped inside,

Trapped inside, oh woah.

You bring fire,
To my bitter and drafty
Soul, it's time,
I chose your light as my own.

You bring fire,
To my bitter and drafty
Soul, it's time,
I chose your light as my own.

The lyrics are amazing. It does bring out a message that clearly symbolizes Clary and Jace's love. I can't fing the song on youtube, though. I wanna listen to it to see if it sounds as good as the lyrics do. How can I listen to it?

Thanx so much! This is an amazing song and I agree that it'd be a perfect theme song for the books. :P

Nicole I ADORE The Mortal Instruments but The infernal Devices are just absolutely amazing, I... I don't have words to describe this books. So TID, yeah.
And Will asjcdokjfvova <3 :D

message 85: by GW (new) - rated it 5 stars

GW Definitely Infernal Devices, by far. I loved the characters Jem and Will! Still rooting for Will though. The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices are both good in their own ways, but I have to think that Infernal Devices is better. I couldn't bring myself to read the fourth book of Mortal Instruments though, and I don't know if I will. Jace started to grow old on me...

To be honest, sometimes I confuse the two series because they're so similar, yet different.

Jessica Usually I'm biased and I tend to like the first series I read first more. But. This is an exception. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the TID series, wayyy better than TMI. Although I did read TMI first and I loved it, TID just seems so much more... realistically awesome. Maybe it's the Victorian era (since I do love the classics), maybe it's the fact that Will, despite the similarities to Jace, is so much more ... human. There's really no other word for it. Jace seems like he doesn't care about anything, or anyone (other than Clary), but Will. Oh Will. He FEELS. I have never felt so strongly towards a character before. WillxTessa is my favorite literary couple <3

And the way Clare created such a strong love triangle, I really had to think about if I preferred Will or Jem, but I thought about it and Will really did shine through in the end. :)

Okay if Will and Jem were actually real people with those types of personalities, who do you think would be more down to earth for Tessa? I think Jem. He is comfort. Someone you can rely on. Will would be one of those passinate hot sex partner, but not someone who could in "real" life be there for you in the end. In the end though, its only a book. Of course many of us would choose Will, because of what he represents: a wild adventure filled with thrill and passion. While Jam represents a peaceful boring life together. If I were Tessa, I'd choose Will. Not because of what I wrote earlier, but because it seems that he's been through alot. He blames himself for something that happen in the past, thats why he doesn't want to love Tessa. He doesn't want to hurt her. DOn't get me wrong I like Jem too. He's sweet and gentel, but not the guy I would choose.

I'm sorry, but I am gonna have to disagree with you there. For the Infernal Devices series, it's obvious that Tessa and Will belong together. I know he was a jerkwad through most of the two books, but he thought he had good reason. *spoiler*: It's not his fault that he didn't know that the curse supposedly put on him wasn't real. He really loves Tessa, that he kept her at arm's length this whole time to stop her from getting killed. He thought that anyone he got close to would die. And in the second book, when he told her the truth behind his ways, he even told her not to tell Jem what he had confessed to her. He wanted Jem's happiness before his own. He even put Tessa's happiness before himself. I could tell that she was hurting really bad when she found out that he loves this whole time, but couldn't really show it when she burned herself with that fire poker. That, to me shows that it's killing her to marry Jem knowing the truth behind why Will aced the way he did. I think she loves Will more than Jem, but is afraid to hurt Jem's feelings. Sophie told her not to hurt Jem. That's even more pressure on her to not go with Will, no matter how much she wants to. So, in a way, Will and Tessa are perfect for each other. They would never admit it, but they both put away their own happiness to make others happy. I kinda liked Jem, but when I realized that he's the obstacle standing between Tess and Will getting together, I think him a bastard. I mean, it's not his fault, but at the same time, how could he not see the chemistry between Tess and Will. They freakin' belong together! I understand that he's dying and I think that's part of why Tessa is staying with him, but.... come on! That is just selfless to me that Will and Tess are denying themselves the right to be together just becuz the guy could croak . I know that sounds really selfish of me to think so, but I just feel it's not right. Jem should know how they each really feel. It may tear him to pieces, but at least he'd be in the loop of things. I'm gonna be really pissed off if Tessa ends up going on with marrying Jem. Will and Tessa BELONG together! That's just it for me. I'm rooting for Will. Jem deserves to be happy too, but just not with Tessa.

Okay guys, I don't know what you're both trying to say here. You're both saying that you prefer Will over Jem, but at the same time it seems like you're disagreeing with me. I'm pretty sure I said I preferred Will too... "WillxTessa is my favorite literary couple" is what I said, haha I'm just confused at the point you're trying to get across here.

My favorite part is when they just made it out of Jace's old house where he lived with Valentine and it's burning. They fall right on top of each other and Jaces kisses Clary, but then she tells him that they should stop becuz he can't answer why he wants to kiss her. I think that happened in book 3. :D Jace is so freakin' yummy it has to be illegal.

Hannah Lee You should read them in published order:
-TMI:City of Bones
-TMI:City of Ashes
-TMI:City of Glass
-TID:Clockwork Angel
-TMI:City of Fallen Angels
-TID:Clockwork Prince
-TMI:City of Lost Souls
-TID:Clockwork Princess
-TMI:City of Heavenly Fire

You should read them in published order because it goes along with each other. It is also recommended by Cassandra Clare that you read both series in published order. :)
