Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sometimes Amazon will send an email offering the latest version. In order to get it you need to reply to the email with the word 'yes'. They don't automatically update as it removes all the highlights and clippings one might have on the book.
That happens very infrequently though.
Two other options. Email amazon and ask them to update the book to the newest version. It's usually done within an hour or two.
Or you can completely delete the book through manage my kindle and re-buy it.

I'd try emailing Amazon first. Just click 'help' on the top right of the amazon page and you'll find various ways of contacting them.

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Just as an addendum to Patti's helpful message, I made some slight updates to Steady Past Your Granny's before Christmas, so if you've already bought this and would like the newer version...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks, Phil!

It would be lovely if authors would let us know of updates. This is probably a good thread in which to do so.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments In the Blood is now at version 4. It was released a few weeks ago and now has an active table of contents - there were a few teeny-tiny error corrections, too.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Tollesbury Time Forever is now in the finished form!

Jay Howard (jay_howard) | 112 comments Never Too Late 2nd edition is now avaiable - and it's on free promo tomorrow and Sunday.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Brilliant Jay. Thanks for letting us know and please be sure to link it in tomorrow's freebie thread, k?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I would hate to think that someone has re-bought one of my books in order to get the latest version.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's not the ideal, Mike. Of course.

The best way is to request it from Amazon but there's no point if we don't know there has been an update.

I'm glad this thread has been bumped.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I emailed Amazon for the new version of Carl Ashmore's The Time Hunters.

I've never had an email to say there's a new version available.
Is there any way of knowing which version is current on Amazon - for if I was to read a book that I've had for a while?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Did you include the link to his book in your email, Joo?

I find I get an almost immediate reply as long as I include the book link.

I've no idea how to be sure we have the most up to date copy without querying the author.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I should have had a space between the first sentence and the second (#goes to do it#)

Carl posted there was a new version, so I emailed them and had it within the hour. My kindle got a bit confused when I was trying to put it in a collection as it already existed there (the old version) so it wouldn't leave the home page (I like my home page empty of books to keep it tidy)

When I emailed Amazon, I quoted the order number of the original (I keep all my order confirmation emails)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I don't understand. I've never had two versions at the same time... Not seen two anyway...

Hmmm.

I think I'll query Amazon and get their best practice on updates tomorrow.

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Just poking about in some rather old un-read threads and saw this.

I have 3 books where I have doubles but they aren't the only 3 books that I have had new versions sent by Amazon off.

It's so confusing.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

That is strange - usually, when the book is on my kindle, and I have an update, it replaces the old file.

:0)

message 16: by Elle (last edited May 24, 2012 03:36AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments See for most of mine it is the case, but for those random 3 - they doubled.

And I think one of them isn't even an update.

A Hole in the World - that is a double on my Kindle and i've NO IDEA WHY!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Have you maybe downloaded the books from two different sources?

message 18: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments see i thought that at first, because i figured i might of got a copy from smashwords, but when deleted, both end up in my archives ?!

message 19: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments According to Amazon, when I queried it, they said that they would either send out an email to previous buyers or make the new version available through the 'manage your kindle' section of the site. This could take up to two weeks to happen. So far, the newer versions of An Orc Not Like Others and The Sword In The Tree (a few typos and active tables of contents now that I know how to make them)have not been marked on my account, although Blood, Sweat & Tea: Real-Life Adventures in an Inner-City Ambulance was marked, so the system should work.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've had update emails for four different books today.

Anyone else getting a lot?

message 22: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments i have got loads and i think i have already updated them all in myk a while ago cos there is no updates there for me now.

i got 3 emails over the last week for the same book which i already updated from myk and also replied to the first email with yes and got the confirmation that they had sent the update.

i think amazon have gone mad...

message 23: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've never had one at all :(

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've looked for the updates in manage my kindle but they aren't showing there.

Just replied with a yes instead.

It's nice that amazon are taking their finger out with delivering updates. Can't say I'm feeling particularly good about them generally at the moment.

message 25: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't get them as emails or in Manage My kindle.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not even one for Bang,Ignite? I know you have bang!

message 27: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I have Bang but no update notification.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Amazon hates you. Stop giving them money.
