Charlotte There were many dislikable characters in this book, but in your opinion who was the worst?

message 2: by J (new) - rated it 4 stars

J Hannah

Sydney The guy.. oh what was his name? He was in the hot tub after that party.. and he... ick

Kenzie Sydney wrote: "The guy.. oh what was his name? He was in the hot tub after that party.. and he... ick"

agreed completely.

Angelica Hannah, for choosing suicide for dumb reasons. Those ppl were just stupid teenagers. It's not like she got raped. The the thing with that one boy in the hot tub at the end she allowed it. She wanted a reason to die, that's why she did it. I think if she hadn't been so weak and just talked to the main guy things would have turned out differently. Sorry if I sound harsh but her decision pissed me off.

Hannah wasn't weak, she was mentally ill. She was majorly depressed, so her view of reality was warped, and she didn't know how to deal with things. She was literally hopeless, and she didn't think anyone cared anymore.

The writer of this article-- http://www.cracked.com/blog/8-tiny-th... -- said it really well at the end:

"The point is that a person is driven to suicide by a whole bunch of different things, which build a wall around them, piece by piece, until the last piece falls into place and the wall is sealed so that there's no way out."

The article talks about small things that managed to make cracks in those walls of hopelessness, and I really recommend it.

And to answer the original post: I dislike Hannah and the rapist guy. Hannah for the tapes she sent out, and the rapist because he's a horrible person.

Angelica Well fine. If mentally ill was what is was then so be it. Her choice still pisses me off.

Cliona Sydney wrote: "The guy.. oh what was his name? He was in the hot tub after that party.. and he... ick"

Bryce, I hated him too.

Cliona Bryce! Hated him.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Bryce, for being a slick asshole, and Marcus for being a plain asshole.

Charlotte Bryce was disgusting

Darlene Bryce definitely. The Courtney girl was pretty annoying too.

Cliona Cliona wrote: "Bryce! Hated him."

Although, I just finished this last night, and I'm not crazy about Hannah either! She blamed everyone else, and when she told them to leave her alone, she got annoyed because they left her alone. Eh, hello?!

Right. I loathe Courtney as well.

haha that's true. I'm sometime embarassed to be a teen girl, they asked to be left alone, and then they get angry because they left them alone.... -____-

Nicole Bryce! Blah

Nicole I think many people dislike Hannah because she committed suicide for small reasons, but maybe she was mentally ill. Maybe she just didn't know what else to do. But personally, I was a little annoyed, because she could have talked to her parents. She could have moved or simply transferred schools. But maybe she didn't have such a deep connection/bond with her parents?

Nicole Hannah wrote: "The English teacher, he was a hired profesional who was trusted to help students. He had no excuss for not trying hard enough to help Hannah. Bryce was a shitty teenager who did something a lot of ..."

I completely agree. He knew she was going to commit suicide and he let her walk out of the office. Sure, he tried to stop her, but not after she left. He should have followed her, or at the very least told her parents or gone to her house or even called her! She just wanted to know that someone at all cared!

I agree, I feel like this would happen at a lot of schools as well, because people assume that this wont happen, and when it does they try to cover their asses.

Astra Bryce and that peeping tom dude. They were both so creepy!!!

Victoria Hannah. I understand suicide and though I think it is a very selfish choice, it's yours to make whether you want to live or not. What made me hate her is the fact that she sent those tapes around, blaming people for what she did and letting everyone know it. What she did was completely her decision and though it might have been the acts of others that drove her to make the decision, she still had other options. Putting that weight on other people's shoulders wasn't fair.

Josefine Amalie Petersen I didn't like any of the characters in the book, but I disliked Hannah the most.
I can't stand people who overreact, when they have small problems. I think the author just didn't know, what her problems should be so he made some stupid reasons. I think he should have talked with somebody who have considered suicide.
I think Hannah was creepy. She had no reason to kill herself, and she joked about in the tape in a creepy way. And to send the tapes around giving people who didn't really do anything guilt was so mean and selfish.
And then, I didn't like that stalker guy..

Josefine Amalie Petersen Oh, and it's her own fault with that guy in the hot tub, she could have said stop.

Charlotte How can you not like Clay?

Kaitlin Actually the teacher. I mean she tried to get help...she actually tried and to the people saying Hannah was stupid and what not, depression and suicide are serious issues and it doesn't matter if we think they had no reason they feel like they do. Our job is to help people and try to stop them, not make it worse by ignoring it and making people in the situations feel like they can't come to us for help (and yes I know in this instance Hannah is a fictional person, but I'm just saying)
Anyway...back to the question..the teacher. Mr.Potter? Anyway, him because she came to him and tried to get help and I personally believe that he had to know that there was more going on with her and he chose toignore it. I'm not saying he knew she was going to kill herself...except if he would of paid attention she basically told him and he shrugged it off and didn't do anything.

Sarah Bryce. He needs to get punched in the face.

message 29: by C.C. (new) - rated it 2 stars

C.C. Hannah- because she could have stopped being the victim.
Clay- sure he's goody goody but I see him as a coward. (sorry)
Lastly the popular jerk? I don't remember his name

message 30: by Jill (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jill Zaiser Clay and Bryce. Clay was annoying and Bryce was gross.

Emily Hoban ive been reading these and a lot of people are daying hannah, and i think thats wrong. she was the victim, and while some can percieve her as selfish you cant imagine the desperation she felt at her last moment, especially with know one in the world to help her.
but having to do with the most dislikable character i would say the guy who offered clay the rock. i forget his name, but he just some how got the impression that he was better than the other people on the list, and thats not okay with me

Library Lady 📚 I didn't like how Hannah kept saying she was the victim. She was a victim...but of herself. Several people tried to help and she pushed them away. However, I would say that is realistic of someone suffering from depression. What bothered me was the way she made the tapes and sent them out, blaming everyone else for what was ultimately her decision. People around her felt bad enough without her pointing the finger and saying it was their fault. Especially Clay, who had to wonder what he did for so long, only to find out he did nothing wrong! I thought it was just cruel to mess with his head when he already felt bad enough about her suicide. Also, she didn't sound very depressed when she made the tapes--she sounded almost chipper sometimes, like she was having so much fun and joking around about ruining other people's lives. Committing suicide for revenge is a horrible reason.

So I'd have to say I disliked Hannah most. But also Justin, because he and Hannah allowed the rape to happen when they knew what kind of person Bryce was, and they could have prevented it or at least tried.

Erin Guinevere Bryce and Courtney. Courtney reminds me so much of a girl I know who screwed me over in a similar way.

Michael Clay the main character,he was so weak and whiny to me.

message 36: by Nae (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nae Ayson I understand that Hannah couldn't think rationally anymore, so I'm giving her a little leeway for everything (okay, that's a lot) she did in the book. But Bryce? That rapist? That is totally unacceptable.

message 37: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby I love Clay AND Hannah! I HATE Bryce, though. He is such a pig that words cannot begin to explain...

message 38: by Harold (new)

Harold Smithson Bryce. How is this even a discussion?

message 39: by Alex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alex Justin. If he would have never wrote the "Hot/Not" list, Hannah's life wouldn't have been destroyed. And he was also the one who started the rumor which led to her "slut" reputation, which was never true.

Sydney Okay... Bryce is a complete sicko. Justin is a jerk.

Another thing I would like to say:
What is with everyone (well, not everyone, but a lot of people) hating Hannah??? So what she commited suicide! And her reasons weren't stupid. Put urself in her shoes if she were an actual person (and there are many MANY people like Hannah), what would you do if people were trash talking you and spreading rumors? What if you wanted to be free, but had no way to be except for to die? Would you just tough it out, or just.... End it all? We've all thought of suicide. Be honest. Some people act on it, others don't. Hannah did. OH WELL!!!! If she had stayed and Clay had talked to her, maybe, MAYBE, she would've been fine. But the catch: MAYBE. We all go through horrible times. So NO ONE should be bad mouthing and hating on the people that did what they were thinking. Maybe that's why people hate the ones that commit suicide. They're jealous. She got out of this crazy messed up world and they didn't. They're still trapped. They can't breathe, can't think straight, can't tell up from down. So they envy the ones that decided to end.... To just stop everything from hurting them even more. I do not believe suicide is the answer. But it is a way. So, people, could you STOP AND THINK before you open your mouths and let loose???? Because we all know what it feels like to be so upset we think nothing will ever be okay again. Everyone has their own opinion. This is mine. So if you hate on me, that will prove to me that you feel everything that i'm saying. I think it's also safe to say that there is WAY too much hate. Everyone hates someone because of the way they: act, dress, talk, walk, smile, wave, write, read, open a dang book!!! There is ALWAYS something negative to say about someone. You're just jealous of them. Have you ever thought about that?? I'm pretty sure only about 5 people will read this. So thank you to those people, whether you're haters, lovers or if you agree or disagree... Every thought counts.

that was really long .

Arielle it seems like a lot of the guys that were in this book were either jerks or sick. The only good one was Clay. Bryce is my least favorite!

then almost all of the girls were stuck up and evill!! it was almost like Mean Girls! my least favorite girl was Courtney!

message 43: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin I disliked them all accept Clay and the guy that Helped Hannah....Dont remember his name but yeah. To me they all did something wrong or horrible

Thuong Nguyen How can you blame someone that committed suicide? If she was happy, she wouldn't die. Imagine yourself going through the things she did. The book started with a fake rumor about her being a slut and she couldn't even clear that rumor because no one believed her. After I read this book, I want to not listen to rumor and not being mean to others. Its a life lesson. >.<...

Charlotte Thuong wrote: "How can you blame someone that committed suicide? If she was happy, she wouldn't die. Imagine yourself going through the things she did. The book started with a fake rumor about her being a slut an..."

I completly agree.

Library Lady 📚 Did someone say they disliked her because she committed suicide? I didn't like her character, but it had nothing to do with her decision to kill herself.

Sharefah Bryce uhhhh he's just disgusting

Thuong Nguyen Lena wrote: "Did someone say they disliked her because she committed suicide? I didn't like her character, but it had nothing to do with her decision to kill herself."

Then why did people disliked her? Because she was weak? She was weak because no one gave her a chance to be strong and powerful. No one believed her. How can someone be strong and stay alive when she has no hope?

Library Lady 📚 I dont know about other people, but I didn't like her because she was a hypocrite. She pointed the finger at everyone else for making her life miserable and then did something that, in most cases, was much, much worse than what anyone did to her. She basically told everyone they were the reason she killed herself, which is a horrible thing that all those people have to live with for the rest of their lives. For some of them, like Bryce, he probably deserved it. But what about some of the ones who did little things never knowing that it would affect Hannah much at all? And after allowing that girl to be raped, she then told the girl that it was her fault that Hannah killed herself? That's when I really started hating Hannah. Also, she let Clay go through all that guilt and then said, "ha, just kidding, you're not really a reason. I just put you on the tapes for kicks." It seemed so malicious and awful. Sure, some of the people on the tapes were jerks, but most of them didn't set out to hurt her. She intentionally sought revenge on a bunch of people who didn't deliberately set out to hurt her (with a few exceptions). I don't know about other people, but that's why I didn't like her.
