I wrote Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction because being a voice for the voiceless is in my DNA. Though I am white, I am tired of reading Church history books that are only about dead white males. Beyond the Suffering is about black heroes of American church history and how their powerful legacy can and should impact all people today.
