PepperP0t | 2106 comments I haven't received any since September. I've complained but seem to be the only one that cares.

I miss notifications, I think it only allows for a max of thirty at a time and then it moves to the newest ones.

I have also had book shelves removed from books, I don't know how many because sometimes I don't notice, oh well! :(

message 103: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I have noticed if I open the thread I get email notifications but any other thread I don't and I have them all set to email all.

message 104: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I have mine all set to notify only (my e-mail fills up to fast if not). I've been getting notifications.

The last couple of months have sucked for me but with the new year starting I know I will have a better year. I hope to be on here more too

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Yay for the positive outlook Lizz. I have had a rough couple of weeks and kind of fell off the GR world. Having no internet access and going over your insanely massive data plan limit puts a damper on things.

Anyway for those who noticed I am back online and will be trying to get back into daily check ins.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Feeling irked.

Going through all my 2013 challenges and updating them. I just realized I got kicked out of a group that I was doing a challenge in. I vaguely remember a newsletter where they said they were going to remove non-active members but really I think that is a bit rude to delete members who hadn't posted a lot.

I was all excited to post I finished the challenge, now I feel like I just got stood up for a date. :( blahhhh.

Ok... moving on I am done with my pitty party for not being cool enough to do their 2014 challenges. **sigh**

Sarah A. (cera_az) HELP REQUESTED...

So a woman at my church yesterday made the comment about one of her resolutions for the year was to improve her reading skills. She is literate but gets VERY anxious and has a difficult time reading (low vocab, literacy...).

She said I could suggest some books for her and was hoping you all could help me out...something light and entertaining, not too long/dense...

Suggestions?

thanks=)

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan by Rick Riordan it is a Young Adult. It is a very good book and a great to start off reading.

The Fire-Eaters by David Almond is a wonderful book and would be good for early literacy.

Ok, to get the best out of a slow reader you have to find a subject matter that REALLY grabs them. I have struggled with my daughter for years. If the story is interesting to her she will keep reading, once she loses interest that's it game over no more reading. Part of her problem also being she is at that age with a low attention span. Hopefully your friend would be less distract-able.

I would start with asking her a few questions. What does she WANT to read? YA type stories? With YA you've got a lower vocabulary level but you are also dealing with a lot of angsty teens. Is she wanting more adult themes? Does she want romance (and at what extremes), does she want paranormal, does she want historical, does she want mystery?

If she is ok with YA here are some I recommend.
Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale Cloaked by Alex Flinn The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

If she wants a little more adult these might be ok.
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis

message 124: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Sorry guys that I haven't stopped by and chat, I ended up getting accidentally got bite by my oldest dog , on my right hand, it's still healing, the bites have healed but I still got bruises on my wrist and on top of my hand, still hurts a little to. so I just wanted to stop by and see how everyone is doing , and how is the weather where you all live, its cold here in Charleston WV, we even had a bad snowstorm here as well back in January,we got any where from 12 to 16 inchesof snow some places even got more than that.

message 125: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Hi, Elizabeth! Sorry to hear about your hand but glad you are on the mend. I live in Ohio and we have had a very mild winter. We've had maybe an inch of snow so far this winter (and I'm not complaining...lol).

an inch is a hole lot better than what we got, but I'm not complaining either, got a lot of reading done, and didn't have to worry about my mom or sister while they were at work, the first night of the storm which was the same night I accidentally got bite which was 1/17/16 they didn't get home to about 3am , and then there was a few days where they had to call off because of how bad the roads where .

Sam | 401 comments I was looking for a place to ask a question about challenges and this was the closest I could find. My question is...for the 2016 challenges, since I am signing up now (end of May) can I backtrack and count books that I have read this year as long as they are marked read this year on my goodreads shelf?

message 129: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Sure, you can back track :)
