Allie I don't know why but I found Inkheart really really hard to get through. It took me at least 3 months I would guess.. It got kind of boring after a while... Maybe its just me....

Cliona I loved it the first time, but reading it again I found it so boring :/ Like, about 100 pages of nothing happening could have been removed from the book! At least! It's too long :/

brooke1994 InkSpell and InkDeath were better. I usually go for the later books in a series, because the first ones just start out and don't have a lot of action.

Cliona Do you think so? I thought Inkheart was the best the first time I read it, then I was like Inkspell is 'meh' and then I was halfway through Inkdeath, and just realllly didn't like it so I stopped!

Shannon I definitely agree that this book was too long! The storyline was fine, she just REALLY needed an editor to come in a prune off about 1/3 of the book in which exactly the same stuff kept happening without pushing the plot along in meaningful ways. It's unfortunate, because I really liked story and thought it was rather inventive.

Stephanie I really loved it. All of the detail of it and everything just made it so much more interesting. No, not all of it was action but a lot of the 'extra' built on the characters, their relationships with eachother and the world that Cornelia Funke was creating. I love this book!

Allie well i agree that it's a good book but a lot of it didn't need to be there.. i mean seriously

Aurora I didn't find it too easy either. In fact, I never read the second book because of this.

Yes. It promised adventure and traveling in books. But it was written in such a dry and stilted style I didnt care for.

Allie thank you finally somebody agrees

We cant like everything other people do(or writes). ;)

Allie lol

And if we dont like a book....were lucky we have goodreads so we can tell others why we didnt;)

That reminds me that I havent written one for this..yet.

Allie ikr this site is amazing

Gwynn White Agreed. I found all three books a challenge. The Inkheart movie was much better. In fact that is what got me reading. I never did finish the last one. I don't know it it was the translation, or the style, but I found it as dry as old toast.

Allie finally another person who agrees!!!

Kirsty I've only read this book in Dutch, but I did find the style rather dull. I don't know if that was because it was translated, or because it really is just dull. It's a shame, because I really like the story.

Elizabeth Baxter I perservered with Inkheart and I'm glad I did. Yes, it is a bit slow in places (and I just didn't think Capricorn or Basta were scary baddies at all) but I loved Inkspell and Inkdeath and I loved Funke's idea of being able to go into books. How cool would that be?

Allie Elizabeth wrote: "I perservered with Inkheart and I'm glad I did. Yes, it is a bit slow in places (and I just didn't think Capricorn or Basta were scary baddies at all) but I loved Inkspell and Inkdeath and I loved ..."
that would be cool but would you really want to go into inkheart??? i know i wouldn't

Sarah Fournier I found this one boring and was skeptical about the second book but I enjoyed Inkspell. I have not read Inkdeath yet because the books are not as good as I hoped.

brooke1994 Sarah wrote: "I found this one boring and was skeptical about the second book but I enjoyed Inkspell. I have not read Inkdeath yet because the books are not as good as I hoped."

InkDeath has about 84 chapters, it's really great!

Elizabeth Baxter Ally wrote: "Elizabeth wrote: "I perservered with Inkheart and I'm glad I did. Yes, it is a bit slow in places (and I just didn't think Capricorn or Basta were scary baddies at all) but I loved Inkspell and Ink..."

Perhaps not Inkheart becaues that's set in our world. But I'd definitely go into Inkspell, which is what the characters do of course. Nasty baddies, great heroes, mythical creatures? Yup. Bring it on.

Allie ok ok i guess inkspell was ok but these books are totally not what I had hoped but I guess the Inkspell is ok but I would totally want to go into the Hex Hall book or Harry Potter maybe Eragon also Twilight.

Elizabeth Baxter Ally wrote: "ok ok i guess inkspell was ok but these books are totally not what I had hoped but I guess the Inkspell is ok but I would totally want to go into the Hex Hall book or Harry Potter maybe Eragon also..."

Yep, I'd definitely go into Harry Potter. What house would you be in? I fancy Ravenclaw.

Allie umm well I guess the obvious choice would be Gryffindor so yeah i guess that would be my choice.. if i had a choice lol

Olivia I found it fun to read the first time throught the Inkheart. The second time was a little... boring?

I didn't like the rest of the books. The rest were confusing.

I agree completely!

Stephanie I did find it hard to get through.. I'm not sure why, I liked the story behind it, but found it difficult to really get into it, I haven't tackled the sequels yet. I have such a long list of things to read, they just haven't made it to the top yet.

Gerd I liked it, although the writing is terribly slow, and felt highly artifical at times (and her constant usage of ! at the end of every second sentence or so terribly annoyed me), but there's something to her characters that I enjoyed a lot.

Still, hadn't I seen the movie first and known where the story is headed I'm not sure if I would have finished the book, because once you put it down and think about it you realize that pretty much nothing ever happens in it, and there's so much promise to the idea of being able to read characters out of books that is just never met.

brooke1994 The action gets better in InkSpell and InkDeath, when the characters actually enter the fantasy world.

Savannah i love all three books but i do like how they are in the book in the last two.

Cristine I listened to these as audiobooks-Brendan Frasier narrated & they were a joy to listen to & not at all difficult to follow.
Now the Jasper FForde books are pretty difficult for me to follow whether I read them or listen to audiobooks.

They have audio? That's so cool

Mara I wasn't too enthusiastic when I first read "Inkheart." Or even "Inkspell," for that matter; just wasn't into them that much. Then I read "Inkdeath," and when I went back and re-read "Inkheart" and its sequel, I was in love. And now it's one of my all-time favorite trilogies.

Marisa Inkheart was extremely hard to get through. I read about half of the book and by then i was so bored that i just stopped. This book seemed completely ineffective to me and it did not reach its directed audience. The movie really was not that great either. However, I did like the concept of the book i just did not like the organization of it.

Mara I LOVE the movie!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read the book, but I haven't seen the movie yet. It took me awhile to read it, but once I finished it, I liked it. :)

Meghan Yes yes yes! I thought I was the only person who felt this way, because a lot of people I know love the series. I love to read, and usually never come across a book I can't get through, but I have never gotten through Inkheart once, although I love the movie :)

message 39: by Mara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mara Maybe you just weren't in the right mood to read it. "Inkheart" is one of those books that you have to be in the right mood for. If you love the movie, you should then like the book almost as much, because the movie and book are almost identical. Maybe give it another try someday? When I first read "Inkheart," I didn't much care for it, but then I gave it another try.

Meghan Mara wrote: "Maybe you just weren't in the right mood to read it. "Inkheart" is one of those books that you have to be in the right mood for. If you love the movie, you should then like the book almost as much,..."

Well, it is sitting uselessly in my bookshelf, so I probably will attempt the reread it someday. I tend to look through my bookshelves now and again searching for new material, or books I've forgotten about. Maybe Inkheart will strike me right someday:)

Hazel West The first time I read this book (when I was about twelve I think) I didn't get through it, but I picked it up several years later and read it in three days. It was after the movie came out and since I loved the movie I decided to read it again and I ended up really loving the book as well =)

Michelle Yes for some reason i just couldn't get into it. This is usually the type of book i love but i just found it unbelievably boring even during the intense.

Agreed

Cindi Ally wrote: "I don't know why but I found Inkheart really really hard to get through. It took me at least 3 months I would guess.. It got kind of boring after a while... Maybe its just me...."

The first books were fine for me; it's the final book, Inkdeath, that I can't seem to finish. Maybe it's because a year or two passed since I read the last one and the time I picked up Inkdeath.

Alissa I absolutely loved this book! i love fantasy reads though, most can get hard to follow.

Jessica Rossana Sawin I read this book for the first time when I was a kid and I loved it so much. I never read the sequels, but I read the book a few times. When I tried to re-read it again a few years ago, I found it hard to get through and wasn't able to finish it. I re-read books all the time, so I don't know what made this book different. However, I still love the idea of this book, and think it was a large part of why I love the fantasy genre so much.

tcb4ts a friend read it and then told me that was great so i started to read it........i got about 250 pages in and got bored and decided that it wasnt really getting any better so i put it down on the cofee table and i havnt picked it up since

Xenon Definitely!!
I had to re-start this book at least three times before I finally got through it. It was so slow-paced, overly-descriptive, and boring. Once I finally got into it, it was a great book, though.

message 49: by Moth (new) - rated it 2 stars

Moth It's not just you. I found it extremely repetitive and kind of boring after a while. Which is exactly why I never read the second book.

Everett It was herder than steel to get through!!! almost took me 4 months but, that's when I really wasn't into reading. (4th grade)
