Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments I could have sworn that I saw a thread for her here but I can't find it anywhere.

How high is the romance in her books? I have several here and am starting a challenge today for credits on paperbackswap. There are prizes for reading the most books in certain categories with romance being and scifi/fantasy another.

I have 3 Octavia Butler books to read for my Feb book club meeting which would fall under the scifi/fantasy category. Where would you put Linnea Sinclair? I might wait until after the challenge if she's more romance than scifi and read some Urban Fantasy instead.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments Oh and I started the thread here because I figured it can turn into a general Linnea Sinclair thread.

message 3: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments There is a lot of romance in her books. It's almost central. The action plot is actually the central apparent focus, but she spends a lot of time just with the hero and expounding on it, etc. :)

message 4: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 44 comments OK thanks. If I read any for that challenge then I'll put them under romance.

message 5: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Now I didn't feel it had enough romance to be put in the sci-fi romance category. I thought it was a lot of action with a small bit of romance. But I only read Gabriel's Ghost (Dock Five Universe, #1) by Linnea Sinclair , so what do I know!

message 6: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments I'd put her at 50/50 myself, with maybe a tilt toward SF over romance. Her Dock Five books perhaps tilted more romance, because her publisher changed marketing, pushing the romance more. So Gabriel's Ghost and the books after did have more romance. But I consider them excellent SF, and SFR. (grin I know not much help!)

J-a (J-Awriter) | 3 comments i've never read any linnea sinclair, but her name pops up in this group a lot and i'm now inspired to read some. does anyone have a suggestion for where i should start?

message 8: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments I read Accidental Goddess first, then Finders Keepers, then Games of Command. Then went on to read all of them. She writes, IMHO, a fun mix of action and romance. Delivers a big finish and satisfying ending. :-)

Linnea Sinclair is one of my favorite authors. Definitely a must-read if you're an SFR fan. I have read all her SF books, and enjoyed all of them. Finders Keepers was the first that I read, and it is probably my favorite. It is a great introduction to her works.

new_user | 755 comments Gabriel's Ghost is the first of her Dock Five series, and I enjoyed that one. :)

J-a (J-Awriter) | 3 comments Thanks very much for the suggestions everyone. At the moment I'm reading 'Duty and Devotion' by AR Norris, but will look into Linnea when I'm done.

Steve Merrick (stevesevilempire) | 1 comments Hello all, I have been secretly following the thread for a while now and I would love some feedback on the romantic element in my book the Navigator, it was never destined to have that Romeo and Juliet element but somehow the two do succeed in having a very real relationship, which is nothing short of miraculous, as the hero Kego O'Grady thinks the heroine, Jenny Smith is a broken robot......

Its all in the preview and its available as an e-book at smashwords or goodreads, but I would love to hear your opinions....

Cheers Steve

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments Steve this is a thread specifically about Linnea Sinclair, please post your query needs in a thread of its own.

I loved Games of Command by Linnea, it's one of my favorite romances even. I think the sci-fi/romance ratio is about 50/50 there, but a lot of the sci-fi is action focused. I adore that book though, the hero (a cyborg) is just so very swoon worthy :)

message 15: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments Oh, a cyborg! :D That one doesn't have anything to do with her Dock Five books, right?

message 16: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Nope, though many of us wish she could write more in this world with the characters. he had a brother....

message 17: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments The brother wasn't a cyborg though.
But the politics and inventions and aliens are really cool in that universe, and I as well would really enjoy it if she wrote more in it.

message 18: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments No, he wasn't a cyborg, but he had a fun personality.

Hal Evergreen (hal_evergreen) Pauline wrote: "No, he wasn't a cyborg, but he had a fun personality."

I forget the brother's name, but I agree that he should get a book of his own. I also wish she would set another book in the Finders Keepers universe.

message 20: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Ditto that, too. Loved Finders Keepers.

message 21: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 4 comments She hasn't had anything out for awhile either. Anyone know if she has anything in the pipeline?

message 22: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments She's working hard, but nothing yet. Maybe when Down Home Alien Blues releases (which I hope it will!).

message 23: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments Wasn't that already released? Or do you refer to the movie thing? Is that still on?

message 24: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Yes, referring to movie. Seems to be back on again. :-)

message 25: by Canoe (new)

Canoe | 41 comments I may be way off, but I thought I had read that her publisher wanted her to drop the romance and concentrate more on just straight SF. If that is true then that is a real bummer.

message 26: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments It was the other way around, they wanted her to focus on the romance and tone down the SF. They redid her covers to reach romance audience, then dropped her series one book from the end when it didn't work.

message 27: by Canoe (new)

Canoe | 41 comments ah...well still a big bummer.

message 28: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Huge bummer.

message 29: by Hmr28 (new)

Hmr28 | 71 comments Yeah, she is hand's down my favorite sfr author. HANDs DOWN!

message 30: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Yup. Down Home Zombie Blues. I believe it is making rounds of festivals or something like that.

message 31: by Hmr28 (new)

Hmr28 | 71 comments Do you know when the movie will be out?

message 32: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Linnea has a yahoo email loop where she updates fans about her books and such. I've not seen anything come through about a release date. Obviously, as a fan, I'm watching/hoping for it, too. (She's also on FB.)

But I'm afraid you know all I know. :-( (Oh, she is contributing a short story to the SFR Brigade Collection releasing next summer!)

message 33: by Jo (new)

Jo Beverley (jobeverley) | 5 comments Just popping in to say I enjoy Linnea's SF Rom a lot, and I think the blend is just right for SF Rom. I think Accidental Goddess is my favorite.

A lot of kind of weird stuff gets slotted into SF Rom, but I like some SF with it. Space ships, aliens, science, whatever. Anyone else?

I like Asaro, too.

message 34: by AnnaM (new)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments I'm currently reading Linnea's short story in The Mammoth Book of Futuristic Romance. So far, I like it. It's comfortable, like coming home to a broken in pair of slippers. Wish she'd write a lot more.

message 35: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm trying another Linnea Sinclair Games of Command and am finding it just as slow as the first book I read Gabriel's Ghost. I have about 5 of her books so I'm hoping I'll get over it soon.

message 36: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments Her stuff can be slow, Carolyn. Jo, I love space ships, aliens, science, tech and gadgets, all that good stuff. The superpowers, sometimes. The androids.

Laurie Green (laurieagreen) | 146 comments For those who loved Games of Command, Linnea Sinclair has a new Sass and Kel-Paten short story out in this new (free) anthology: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
