HeavyReader | 450 comments I read this book in the 80s, but I think it was much older when I read it. It was probably written in the 60s, but maybe even the 50s. I think it was actually that old, not just set in that time period.

In the book the (hardworking, enterprising) young (preteen or early teen) girl enters a cooking contest. She originally plans to make a souffle, but ends up baking bread instead.

I think when I read the book, it had a title different from what it had originally been published as. I think the version I read mentioned the original name on the cover.

The main character may have been named Betsy, but I am not sure about that.

CLM | 311 comments This is Ginnie and the cooking contest by Catherine Woolley - one of my favorites! The series begins with Ginnie and Geneva but her books are hard to find these days.

HeavyReader | 450 comments yippie! thank you so much. I will move this over to the solved folder.
