There was a book I started reading on a trip and never finished. It was a scifi book about a group that followed Cat 5 tornadoes across country.
1940's magic noir. It starts with a Dwarf who can curse peoplemeeting with some big shot who wants some one dead.
Afterward the butler tells the big shot that he was pretty much telling the truth when they made the agreement.
I've been trying to find out the name of a book I read in school. I set in a post- apocalyptic earth as a few last ships are set to the abandon the dying planet, the protagonist is a young girl who recording the story in her diary, they set up a colony on a strange new world, the last thing I remember about the box is that the diary becomes the colonies first history book. could anyone hell me, this has been bugging me for about ten years
80's read, book about a 20-ish year old man who has issues with technology not working around him (Dresden like) and discovers another dimension where magic works and tech doesn't; finds out he was born here and switched at birth...A main theme is that there are some people whom study hard, practice and become proficient, and others for whom a particular field comes easily, having the 'knack' for it. Masters vs. artists as it were. That was the thing that stuck with me.

The sequel, Madwand, focuses on how only some of the magicians are born to it.
