Warren | 1556 comments I can't remember the name & therefor can't find a story I read
years ago. It was a steam punk/scifi short story.
It had to do with a steam punk- airship riggers ball.
I believe that I read in in scifi magazine.
Light speed magazine?
I've had no luck in locating it.
Suggestions would be welcome.

Warren | 1556 comments There was a book I started reading on a trip and never finished.
It was a scifi book about a group that followed Cat 5 tornadoes across country.

Warren | 1556 comments 1940's magic noir. It starts with a Dwarf who can curse people
meeting with some big shot who wants some one dead.
Afterward the butler tells the big shot that he was pretty much telling the truth when they made the agreement.

Mark (mndrew) | 31 comments 80's read, book about a 20-ish year old man who has issues with technology not working around him (Dresden like) and discovers another dimension where magic works and tech doesn't; finds out he was born here and switched at birth...
A main theme is that there are some people whom study hard, practice and become proficient, and others for whom a particular field comes easily, having the 'knack' for it. Masters vs. artists as it were. That was the thing that stuck with me.

Are you thinking of Changeling?
The sequel, Madwand, focuses on how only some of the magicians are born to it.

Mark (mndrew) | 31 comments Thank you Alan, that was it. Lost my SFBC copies in a move years back, never to be seen again. Hoping Audible picks up books like these soon. Reminded me also of how much I enjoyed Zelzany's Dilvish books as well.
