I've been putting this one off. I didn't like lies - having everything explained twice was really annoying. I really need to catch up!

Katie (kahneks) | 98 comments 2.5 stars to Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh read 3/7/12 for the free space shelf

The story of a cranky career bachelor sentinel meets virgin red headed foreseer...this has a weak plot of finding Marine's killer -Faith's sister. Whom she saw die in a vision... They bond and mate for life...they bring the killer to justice mate some more and it ends weirdly. They tasted, smelled musky, looked creamy, and stroked a lot! I need a lot more plot to my romance stories. Virgins do not immediately ride erections...they just don't! I read over half the book to wait for an unbelievable first time...ugh. It wasn't horrible it just could have been a whole lot better. Everyone says the next book is good...so I am moving on to the next one.

Rosina | 1714 comments Morning Ladies

Finished my demon read......

Kiss of the Night (Dark-Hunter, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon March 10/2012 3.5★

KOTN opens with a fascinating tale of Atlanteans and the evolution of the Apollites - and how the jealousy of goddess Apolloymi propels Apollo to curse the Apollites, condemning them to a life expectancy of 27 years. The last descendant of Apollo, 26-year old Cassandra Peters prepares herself for death until she meets Dark Hunter Wulf Tryggvason - who leads a solitary existence with his squire Chris. Wulf is her destined soul mate and when Cassandra becomes impregnated during a "dream mating", she is struggling to stay alive for her child as the evil Daimons and Destroyer Stryker hunts them down.

This fantasy world is blooming with imagination - and enriched with textured characters. Secondary characters like Talon, guardian Kat and even villains like Stryker and his son Urian are larger than life. Ms. Kenyon sculpts the characters with honesty and emotions, bringing to life a beautiful series that speaks volumes about love and redemption.

SK spun a mythological world that grows increasingly complex with each book. This world, filled with vampires, were-animals, and lots of immortal gods, is a fresh and fascinating setting for a romance novel. Unfortunately, while the background story gets more and more imaginative, the love stories remain bogged down in repetition.

I will keep on with the series because now I am curious about Ash...I think I have to read about 10 more books until I get to his story...

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments The Danger That Is Damion by Lisa Renee Jones 5★ 10/3/12

When a team of soldiers working in "Project Zodius" are injected with Alien DNA instead of their usual immunisations - GTECH soldiers are born. Faster healing and increased strength and speed are amongst the gifts they develop. One of these soldiers - Adam, has a thirst for power, he is quickly becoming obsessed in his mission to breed a new race of super soldiers. GTECH soldiers can only breed with their true mate, Adam uses this to set up Sex Camps where women are forced to sleep with his soldiers in the hope that one of them will be their mate. Adam has no qualms about using people for his own gain.

Fortunately Adam's brother, Caleb doesn't share his goals and he has formed a group of Renegade's who loosely work with the government in the hope that they can stop him.

Renegade Damion Browne doesn't know what to think when Lara Martin enters his life, she says things that don't make sense and treats him like an enemy. Can they put their faith in each other in order to survive what's coming?

I loved this installment in the Zodius series, it was a perfect mix of romance and suspense. I liked Damion and Lara together they are both stubborn and mistrusting yet they are drawn to each other despite knowing the other is kepping secrets. I loved Lara's sensitive side and her indecision, it was easy to relate to her and I found myself willing her to not give up, to fight for her memories and Damion. I was surprised I liked Damion as much, especially with how much I adore Sterling but he surprised me, going frm a guy who never deviates from the plan to someone who would go to the ends of the earth for someone else.

Lisa really surprised me with this book, just I get an idea of where we are going and what happens next she completely blows my expectatioons out the water. Every book is that little bit better than the one before and the world gets that bit more intriguing. I'm in awe of her world buillding skills, she just keeps adding layers and extra dimensions to the characters. I can't wait to see where she takes us next!

Katie (kahneks) | 98 comments finished Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris ; 4 stars on 3/10/12 for the PNR shelf

This is a good one. About a murderer running loose in Bon Temps, LA. It appears the killer is either Sookie's brother or lover. She feels compelled to clear their names - so she uses her telepathic power to search for the killer. While chasing down leads she comes across vampires, some want to kill her...some want to bed her. Heck. EVERYONE wants to bed her, but Bill deflowers her in a really believable scene around page 150 or so. She figures out who the killer is and takes a hell of a beating. Oh, forgot to tell you that Bill up and leaves town; selfish bastard. No help at all...men. Sookie saves the day. At the very end, she is in a hospital room full of flowers (none from Bill) and suitors - even one lurking outside her window. Personally, I like Sam but we'll see what happens. It is a good start to the series and will be reading on when I can.

Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5; Were-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon 4★ 11/03/12

What a great read this was. Read it almost in one sitting.
Vane is a were-hunter not a DH. Still many of the chararacters from previous books make a cameo appearance. Also in this book we learn a bit more about the infamous "Sanctuary" and the Peltier family that runs it.
The characters are believable, sexy, courageous and fun. Her heroine is a size 18. Very rarely do you see a heroine who is not a petite size, built like a Barbie doll. Real life woman . .granted though, she falls for a wolf .. but the hero helps us to understand both his lives. You get more background information, more interaction with Acheron and Simi, and the possibilities abound with information for future storylines.

Lili | 297 comments Just finished Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon 03/11 *****

A very pink romance... the good guys won and the bad guys were forgiven and given a chance at redemtion.
As was probably the author's intention, what I liked the most about Vane was every time he assured Bride (what a stupid name) about her weight, he even had the power to change her appearance but instead of doing so as she asked, he told her he liked her just the way she was.
How can you not fall in love with someone like him?

message 276: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Glad you liked it Lili, I do like Vane's attitude to curvy girls :)

How's everyone getting on? We still need Jade & Lili to pick a book for this week. It's a tough category.

Jade - how are you doing with your books? I knw you struggled with Covet initially, is it any better now?

No I'm still struggling with Covet but I will plod on, I hate to be beaten by a book should be finished this week. Definately not what I thought it would be!

I am also on 86% of my Demon read :) so will be upto date soon, haven't had alot of reading time of late.

Hope everyone is ok :)

No worries, Covet was a hard one for me to get through too. I expected so much more, especially after BDB!

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward 2* 12.03.12

I was really disappointed with this book, I was expecting great things after enjoying the BDB soo much and loving the front cover. I will not be reading the other books in the series. It took me ages to actually get into the book so much so that I felt like giving up on it, but won't be beaten! so I carried on regardless. But to be honest I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Katie (kahneks) | 98 comments Something about Bill, just didn't set right with me from the beginning. There are little things that bother me; like always mentioning to others that "She is MINE" - vampire or not - it should be pretty implied when you arrive with a date that you are "together"! There were a few things mentioned when Sookie was getting ready to go somewhere that "Bill doesn't like it when I wear that", but he seems to be out of town everytime she needs him!

I love Sookie Stackhouse....and Eric as you all know.

In this book we find out more about Quinn, a Were-Tiger another man to add to Sookie's List! I just love how Charlaine Harris makes me laugh with the one liners, makes me cringe for the same reason and never fails to entertain me!:)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Witch Way to Murder (Ophelia & Abby, #1) by Shirley Damsgaard 4★ 15/3

I enjoyed this cozy mystery, it was light on the paranormal (I think that will change in future books as Abby teaches Ophelia), the clues weren't too easy and parts remained a mystery to the near the end. The characters were likeable for the most part.

Lili | 297 comments Finished First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones 03/17*****

Great book, looking forward to the next one in the series.
I like Charley, she's so silly and fun, her inner dialogues were always amusing.
Even though we never really met Reyes, he was always such a presence.
I liked the fact that the author didn't make Charley an all-knowing-powerful being but more like a normal person, it wasn't hard to relate to her.
