Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments New shelf! (Sorry I can't link it up from my BB but I think www.goodreads.com/shelf - and then search for magic should work)

So for the magic shelf (we couldn't just get an angel shelf, no. Lol) I'll be reading Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk. I can't figure out how to do links from the phone :(.... It's here from the library already and waiting to be read :)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments That link takes you to popular shelves, not the "magic" shelf. Try this:
Magic

message 303: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Yeah! Ok let me check to see what I will read.

message 304: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Lots of choices (as usual which is good!)....think I'll go with The Shattered Sylph (Sylph, #2) by L.J. McDonald . I really enjoyed the first and I've had this one for awhile.

message 305: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am either going to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor or The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa . I will let you know which one I go with. I need to read both of the because they are library books.

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Done 3/18 for Magic 4* The Shattered Sylph (Sylph, #2) by L.J. McDonald
Why did I wait so long to read this?! I love the world this author created. Highly recommend this for PNL romance lovers who want something that is not vampire, werewolf, etc. My only issue: the heroine is only 18 and I think I would have liked this better if she were older. The hero has loved her since birth and they shared a kiss when she was 16(!). (Ril is an immortal/long lived being).

Sandra | 25908 comments Glad you enjoyed it Rachel, I've got the first 2 of these on my tbr tower and have only heard good things.

message 310: by Lina (new)

Lina I'll be reading Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews for this week.

message 311: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Yay! You'll love it! At least I hope you will, CaroB!

message 312: by Lina (new)

Lina lol, Lady Jaye! I hope I do too :-) I've heard a lot about it on one of my recent buddy reads.

message 313: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I think it would be #1 fav series for me so I hope you love it too. Mind you, some people have to read a couple of them to get the greatness. LOL

message 314: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments You are so right, Sandra - I swear even though I loved the books I had no idea what was going on until book 3, LOL!!!!

message 315: by Lady Jaye (last edited Mar 21, 2012 08:04AM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments It's becoming rather obvious to me that I suck at picking books. I am also slowly coming out of a month-long reading slump, so that might explain why I am so irritable lately. I read Magic to the Bone and give it ★★. The story was okay until the heroine was revealed to be so brainless it's insulting to the reader. I mean, what type of person with an iota of sense can't connect dots even when the dots are right in front of you screaming to be connected?! And your life depends on it? The only good thing about the book is that the hero's name is Zayvion. It's gonna work really well for all thos A-Z name challenges I'm in, lol. I'll try the next book in series and see.

message 316: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Lady Jaye, it is so hard to finish a book I don't enjoy. I hope your next one is at least a 4-star read! :-)

message 317: by Audrey (last edited Mar 21, 2012 02:40PM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) LOL ... I need to read it at least for those challenges too. I am also doing the A-Z challenges and Z's are hard to find.

I hope you start having better luck with picking books!

message 318: by Lina (new)

Lina good on you for sticking with it Lady Jaye.

Lina ok here are mine from the last two shelves:

Shelf: Paranormal Mystery, Book: Second Sight (Arcane Society, # 1) by Amanda Quick , Finished: 22.03.12, Rating: ★★★

Review: This was a great excuse for me to finally start the Arcane Society series from this author that I've been putting off. I must admit that while I liked this story, I didn't love it.
The plot and surrounding mystery was very well set up, with twists and turns and snakes - oh my! The suspects were presented to keep the reader guessing and their motives very plausible. My disappointment stems from the vagueness in the romance. While I liked Venetia's and Gabriel's characters, I didn't get a real sense of WHY they have fallen for each other. They interact well, but though we are told they are each other's "the one" I don't see evidence of anything other than sexual chemistry in the narrative.
Great mystery, dry romance, good read. I'll continue with the series.

Shelf: Magic, Book: Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews , Finished: 23.03.12, Rating: ★★★★★

Review: I don't even know where to start with this. I haven't had the greatest track record with this author, but have absolutely loved the world-building in this story. Kate is a fantastic heroine, kick-ass and yet vulnerably lonely. I'm going to have to buy the rest of the series and read them all!

message 320: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Told ya!

message 321: by Lina (new)

Lina lol, you sure did. I've had a few "meh" reads lately, so this was just a welcome relief!

message 322: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay, you got the greatness from the 1st one!!!!

And Arcane improves as you go along with some very interesting MCs.

message 323: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I just requested our Paranormal Mystery stamp!

Looks like I need to try Magic Bites one of these days.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
★★★★★

I first read this in 2000 when I was teaching 7th Grade English. Many of my students fell in love with this series, as did I. The re-read did not disappoint. I loved when Harry discovered he had a godfather. It's so sad the way his aunt and uncle treat him, now he has "family" and a tie to his parents. What was really interesting (and what I didn't remember) is that You Know Who does not even make an appearance in this installment. This is a wonderful series for all ages. Can't wait to re-read the next installment.

message 332: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments I'm going with Wait for Dusk (Dark Days, #5) by Jocelynn Drake or From Dead to Worse (Sookie Stackhouse, #8) by Charlaine Harris

message 333: by Rachel-RN (last edited Mar 31, 2012 05:41PM) (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Updated teams that need 1 more:

#1: "New 2 You Series"- 4th row
#2: "angels" bottom row or
"New 2 You Author" 4th row
#6: "New 2 You Series"- B column or
"5 Stars" 3rd row
#8 "Alpha Male" diagonal
#10: "2011"- diagonal
#12 "post-apocalyptic" 3rd row or
"2011" B column
#14: "New 2 You Series" 2nd row

Wow- "New 2 You Series" is a game winning shelf (should it be called) for 3 teams! "2011" would be a winning shelf for 2 teams.

I LOVE the BDB series!!!

message 340: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am reading The Iron Knight (Iron Fey, #4) by Julie Kagawa (almost done) for the magic self and Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods, #1) by Melissa de la Cruz for the PNR - UF self.

message 341: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments CaroB I haven't the courage to start the BDB series. I follow the convos they have over in the JR Ward BDB forum and I'm not sure my heart can take it, lol.

Audrey I'd love to know how Iron Knight was. I plan on reading it one of these days.

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Team!!!

Sandy your wish came true!! I was also determined to find a book I'd enjoy, that's why I didn't post until now :). when my copy of Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4) by Stacia Kane landed on my kindle this morning I remembered to check if it was on the shelf, and lo and behold! 2 people had shelved it as PNR-UF, yayyy!!!!

Okay that was just rambling. Now for the review. I give Sacrificial Magic ★★★★. It was a very wonderful read, and I am glad that Ches sis actually starting to believe sh deserves better out of this life than being a druggie. Terrible is beyond awesome and sometimes I wanted to bitchslap Chess because she hurt him because of her own insecurities. But it was very worth the wait and I can't wait for Chasing Magic to come out in June!

message 343: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Hooray, Lady Jaye!

PS - BDB is definitely worth the emotional turmoil! :-)

message 344: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Haha. how's Magic Bites coming along?

message 345: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Just read a little bit last night. So far so good.

message 346: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Yes, they are!!!

I just want to apologize if I am taking longer that normal. I have come into reading rut. The books are good, but not in a reading mood lately. I am almost done with both books. Don't worry I am chugging onward. This slump won't last long.

Lady Jaye - so far The Iron Knight is pretty good.

message 347: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments No worries, Audrey. It's not like any team can win this week. :-)

message 348: by Lady Jaye (last edited Mar 28, 2012 02:35AM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies,

so ahem, I went back and checked to make sure Sacrificial Magic was on the right shelf. Apparently it wasn't - it was on UF-PNR shelves instead of PNR-UF. So in case my entry doesn't count, here's one that's definitely on the correct shelf :)

Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning , which I read on the 26th and give ★★. Ugh! I do not know why I am trying to finish this series. Nothing useful happens, except Mac's idiotic pontifications and Barrons 'stupid sentiments. Barrons is a jerk of the first water, I don't think Mac is the brightest cookie anywhere, and Dani ought to be shot for abuse of the word fecking, which is not even a word.

Um yes - it would seem in the past month or so I have become quite violent in my reading, what with wanting to beat people, bitchslap people and shooting people. Hopefully I will be back to my peaceful self in April :)
