Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Does it matter how many people self the book as "demon"?

Awesome CaroB! I have seen that a lot of people have been reading that series and like them. I might have to give it a try.

No, it doesn't matter how many people shelve the book -- 1 or 1,000 - it still counts. :D

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Thanks Christina!

You're welcome! ;-)

message 207: by Lina (new)

Lina Thanks Lady Jaye and Audrey. I'd recommend the series, but definitely something you need to start at the first one for. And if you don't like cliffhangers, you might just want to wait until the last one comes out and then read them all, because even though there are individual cases in each book, there is also a very important continuous thread to the story that leaves you hanging for the next book to come out. I know some people find that annoying.

message 208: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I will diffidently wait until the all come out. I hate waiting a year or so for the next book in a series to come out. Unless for some reason I get my hand on #1 early. LOL

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi Ladies. I finished Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison today. Wrong choice. I didn't like it: not the plotting, not the characters. I especially disliked the main character. I don't know. I find that the earlier UF is not very good (this one was published in 2004), so mebbe it could just be that instead of being a bad book, this one just suffers from genre infancy syndrome. Perhaps if I'd read it in 2004-2006, I'd be rooting for Rachel instead of praying someone kills her. It still only gets ★★ from me. And I don't think I'll be reading more Kim Harrison anytime soon.

That made me laugh!

Sorry you didn't like your book. Hope the next one is much better!

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hey Sandy - you have CaroB's review for this week for 2 stars instead of 4 :(.

I hope the next book is better too. I need an awesome read after all the ones I've been getting lately.

message 212: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Thank you for letting me know! It's fixed now.

I am really enjoying my demon read, Pleasure Unbound. If you haven't already read it I would recommend it!

message 213: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Oh, thanks! Will check it out from the library!

I really liked the Demonica series, too!

message 215: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Lady Jaye - I also only read #1 in The Hollows series. I wasn't to crazy about it and I am not sure if I will read any more in the series. I know that normally the first book in some series are a little slow, so I try to read at least the second. Maybe someday I will.

message 216: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Me too, Audrey - someday in the far future I might try her again. I read some other reviews, and it seems Rachel doesn't change. I don't know if I can handle that.

message 217: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I finished my pick for the Demons shelf, Pleasure Unbound. Honestly, I didn't expect to like this book. I wasn't too crazy about the idea of demons, and many times I have picked up a PNR book with high expectations only to be disappointed by bad writing, annoying heroines, and cheesy dialogue. Thankfully, this book is well-written, action-packed, steamy, and at times, funny. I do have to say, however, that many elements reminded me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Perhaps I am being too analytical, but there you have it. Bottom line is I will continue this series since the premise and characters are interesting, and a mystery remains to be solved.
★★★★

message 218: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Nice review, Sandy. Glad you liked it. What elements reminded you of the BDB?

message 219: by SandyC (last edited Mar 02, 2012 06:40AM) (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Let's see...

BDB:Beth is half vampire and doesn't know it, and she may or may not transition into full vampire; PU: Tayla is half demon and doesn't know it, and she may or may not transition into a full demon.

BDB: One of the vampires has been kidnapped and tortured which has caused him serious psychological damage; PU: Ditto (but it's a demon).

BDB: Rage shifts into a beast that can be soothed by Mary; PU: Eidelon shifts into a beastly demon that can be soothed by Tayla

In both worlds, the heroes spend most of the book trying to fight the urge to bond with the heroine; the language and banter are similar; the clothing and weapons are similar; one world has a hidden mansion, the other has a hidden hospital.

Anyway, maybe these are just characteristics of the genre and I just need to get over it! LOL

message 220: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) LOL ... It does come really close to the BDB books. I was having a hard time getting into #4. It wasn't bad or anything .... I guess the timing for me to read was off. I need to finish it. Sexy brothers vs. sexy brotherhood .... hmmmm .... they are just too darn sexy to choose. I'll take them all. LOL

message 221: by Audrey (last edited Mar 02, 2012 10:00AM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am done with Undead and Unfinished (Undead, #9) by MaryJanice Davidson . (Demon Self) I gave this book ★★★☆☆
I was kind-of disappointed with this book. I loved the whole concept of the book, but Betsy was more annoying than funny this time. Maybe it was just me. Oh .... and I REALLY hated the last chapter! How could she do that to *Sink Lair (he he Sinclair). It made me want to run in there a rescue him from the evil harpy. LOL I sure hope MaryJanice explains herself in the next book!

*Sink Lair is what Betsy calls Sinclair when she thinks is being too bossy. He HATES it. LOL

message 222: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Lady Jaye - I have to thank you again for telling me how to do the stars. I LOVE THEM!

message 223: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Welcome :D

message 224: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments How many more books are in this series, Audrey? Are you going to read all of them?

message 225: by Audrey (last edited Mar 02, 2012 10:02AM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) So far there are 10. I have really liked them. Betsy is funny and just a little annoying, this time it was more annoying. Also, she has this annoying shoe thing. I know women love there shoe, MaryJanice has Betsy annoying obsessed with designer shoes. That is the one thing I CAN'T stand about all the books, but in some places the little comments are funny .... I just wish it wasn't sooo much. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my shoes, but I don't want to read so much about them. I learned names of shoes designers I have never heard of. LOL Give my "Payless" any day ... cute and inexpensive, which Betsy hates. :-)
I would say give them a try. She does make me laugh out loud.

I just have to read #10, which I will be doing soon. I will let you know if MaryJanice redeems herself. LOL

message 226: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I couldn't get past book 1 because I thought Betsy was annoying. :-)

message 227: by Audrey (last edited Mar 02, 2012 10:05AM) (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I think what makes me like her, is that she so dumb, I can't help but laugh. LOL
In the first one she was very annoying.

message 228: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments Maybe I will try it again one of these days.

message 229: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments For the Demons shelf finished A Perfect Blood 3/3
I had more difficulty starting this one, even though the action starts right away. However, about 70 pages in or so it got better. In this one Rachel is more accepting of who she is now. Ivy and Jenks are moving on with their lives; I liked the dynamics of Ivy/Glenn and Jenks/Belle. (view spoiler) Overall, I really liked this one and it ranks up there with Pale Demon as a favorite. 4*

message 230: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Heh. At least one of us likes Kim Harrison's series enough to read more of the books. Glad you liked this one, Rachel. Did you like the first one when you read it? I thought Ivy liked women?....

message 231: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Ivy is bisexual. I think the first couple of books were slower, things got really good with The Outlaw Demon Wails.

New shelf up: Paranormal Romance

message 232: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Lots of choices for this one. Shall I finish off a series with Silent Night, Haunted Night (Nicki Styx, #4) by Terri Garey ? Or continue the LOTU vs Psy-Changling series Heart of Darkness (Includes Lords of the Underworld, #4.5) by Gena Showalter or Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling, #7) by Nalini Singh ? It's been awhile since I've picked up either series. Choices, choices, choices! What to pick!

message 233: by Lady Jaye (last edited Mar 03, 2012 10:31AM) (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments I am going to read The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter . I've owned it for a while. I read the prequel first, and I wasn't wowed. So here's hoping I enjoy it and don't put up another grumpy review at the end of the week....or I might go with At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost . It's here from the library waiting to be read.

message 234: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments I'm waiting for BoM from the library too, Rachel :). One of my GR friends says that even though it's not the mos interesting of the stories, it contains lots of useful info for the series and is still a good read.

I haven't read Nikki Styx, so no help there. And the one Showalter I read wasn't too riveting (the LOTU prequel :D) - so I'd go with BoM or the Nikki Styx book.

message 235: by SandyC (last edited Mar 03, 2012 11:06AM) (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments We earned another stamp! :-)

I have read The Darkest Night and wasn't at all wowed, however I did read The Darkest Kiss and thought it was a lot better.

I will read No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole for paranormal romance, even though I wasn't crazy about the first (or actually it was the second A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole ) IAD book.

message 236: by Lina (new)

Lina I'll read Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs this coming week. Am I right in thinking we can start reading straight away or do we need to wait for Monday?

If you read this one At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost , would you want to do a buddy read? We could both read for the shelf if you want....

message 239: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) The prequel is nothing like the series. The series is, IMO, great. I would highly suggest reading LOTU.

I will see what I can find. It will probably be whatever library books is due first. LOL

I have been stuck on teen books, lately. I have no idea why, but they are sweet, nice reads. The only thing that gets on my nerves is the sexual tension. I am a mother, but a realist reader too. I would love in my little world for all teens to wait until they get married, but I also know that isn't reality for most (not all) teens. I'm not saying get graphic, down and dirt or just to though it in just to ad a sex scene. Just make them a little more realistic on that account. Again this is just my opinion. LOL

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments For PNR shelf:
Silent Night, Haunted Night (Nicki Styx, #4) by Terri Garey
Done 3/4/12 3*
Where to start? I am pleasantly surprised that Sammy (after that last book, I had hoped he was gone for good) redeemed himself and made me like him. I felt Joe got off way too easy. He didn't seem sincere enough (to my tastes)in his apologies. A decent close to the series. My favorite remains book 2 A Match Made in Hell

message 247: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Rachel, she couldn't get rid of Sammy because of the spin off series - Devil Without a Cause (The Devil's Bargain #1) by Terri Garey
