Need Book Recommendation!!
Michelle Michelle Jan 29, 2012 05:15PM
Okay! So I have come to a dead end in books. I finally have 1 day free from school and I would love to find a new book to read. I like psychological mysteries that contain forensics, and maybe some romance or family backdrops. I don't do the smut books, nor do I do vampire or any sci-fi. If you know of a great book PLEASE let me know. I am a psychology major if that helps! I really like Lisa Gardner and I'm in the process of reading the Scarpetta series from Patricia Cornwell. If you know of a good love story, that isn't merely sex, Nicholas Sparks is my favorite romance author. I've checked NY Times and other book club lists but can't find one that really grabs my attention. Any recommendations are appreciated! Thank you :)

PS Also if you know of any exciting, fun girly books! I haven't read one of those in a long time... Much needed!! Thanks!

Big fan of the Lisa Gardner, and find that Harlen Coben has a similar appeal to me. Hope that helps.

Tess Gerritsen's books are excellent reads, especially the Rizzoli and Isles series.

Lisa Gardner is my go-to for Mystery, and Sherryl Woods is who I turn to for my Romance. She has two great series of books that once I started, I couldn't stop until I finished them all, one being the Chesapeake Shores series and the other is the Sweet Magnolia's Series (which she just published her newest book of this month!) I almost feel like I'm cheating or something if I read another author. I have found Jodi Picoult to be fascinating and gut-wrenching in the stories she tells! I have only read My Sister's Keeper and Sing You Home but that were fantastic!

Try Karen Rose, Tess Gerritsen or Kathy Reichs, all good reads. I reserve one of my book cases for what I call 'the power girls', they're all in there along with Karen Slaughter, Patricia Cornwell...
If you want some romance, have a look at the early Tami Hoag books: Lucky's Lady or Cry Wolf.

Silent girl or Ice cold from Tess Gerritsen...

You might like Karen Rose. I like the books Die for me, scream for me and kill for me trilogy.

Oh, I forgot Cate Price!!!! Oh my goodness, sorry Cate!! You will love Daisy!

I read all Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner, Laura Benedict and Erica Spindler books that come out. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of these.

If you enjoy Patricia Cornwell, then try Kathy Reichs. She is forensic too. There is a tv series about her books called Bones and it is about the forensic doctor named Temperance just like the books

Funny, I am also a Lisa Gardner fan! I have read and own all her books, except for the newest one in the D.D. Warren series, which I am hoping to own soon. I am also in the process of reading the Scarpetta Series by Patricia Cornwell. I am currently on Black Notice. I've been looking for someone who also reads the Scarpetta series to discuss with because I know my Husband is getting tired of me going on and on about these characters he knows nothing about. LOL

Jennifer Hillier "Creep" was a great psychological mystery. Can't wait to read her next book "Freak".

I guess I'm late with my reply but you could like Sofie Hannah, described as a psychological thriller.

Dennis Lehane is another good crime/thriller author. 'Darkness take my hand' is one of my favorite and was quite creepy in places.

Lee Child, David Baldacci. You must watch Rizzoli & Isles.

Elizabeth Adler: "Now or Never", "Sooner or Later", "All or Nothing".
Tami Hoag: "Ashes to Ashes", etc.
"Night Sins".

Just finished "Love You More" by Lisa Gardner and thought it was good - kept my interest - unexpected ending. Other suspense/thriller authors to try are: Lee Child's "Reacher" series; ---Greg Isles "24 Hours" ---Lisa Jackson's "Shiver" or "Absolute Fear" are good reads -- she has several books that are worth reading. Dean Koontz's "Door to December." Karen Rose "Kill for Me." Hope this helps.

For a good quality writer, on the line of Lisa Gardner definitely Karin Slaughter. Also try Jennifer Hillier (Creep; Freak).

I normally don't like thrillers with a lot of romance, but I enjoyed Elisabeth Naughton's Wait for Me.

Hi Michelle, my name is Karen...I'm super behind on catching up on things here on Goodreads...but I have some authors I can recommend to you...Debbie MaComber (i think I spelled her last name correctly) writes really good romances that are fairly close to real life stories...not a whole lot of SMUT in those!!! I bet you will thoroughly enjoy Patricia Cornwell books, I've read every single one...for the "brain" its great reading...Nora Roberts also writes "girly romances" mixed with murder and mayhem (also see her writings as JD Robb) hope this helps you.....

I just recently read Beyond Reach Beyond Reach by Karin Slaughter. It was extremely brutal and a bit difficult in places. But what an amazing mystery. She is an incredible talent! Try her...

Have you read any Mary Higgins Clark? Ive read all of hers and I found Lisa Gardner recently and liked her because i liked Mary Higgins Clark. I also liked Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. A pretty good mystery/thriller like book.

If you haven't read Karen Rose, I think that you would like her. Her books are also in series and are great. As with any author her books get better as her writing progresses.
Also, you might like Laura Griffin, Kylie Brant, Roxanne St Claire, Debra Webb, Christy Reece, and Allusion Brennan.
For offbeat fun, check out Jennifer Crusie's later books ...not the first few.

Hi, I quite like Lisa Gardner too and can also recommend PJ Tracy.
I wonder if you would like 'obedience' by Will Lavender - I found it quite an intriguing pysch thriller.

Also, if you still haven't been grabbed by anything how about Cody McFadyen - shadow man or Chris Mooney - The Missing.

I'm now going to have a look at Wicker based on Michele's recommendation!

Hi, check out my read books, I also love a pysch thriller. Mark Billingham is fantastic, and I can highly recommend Wicker, one of the best thrillers I ever read, really makes you question your own ideas of what is right and wrong. Actually, as does PJ Tracy. Happy reading!
