message 3: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I just finished reading Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones and enjoyed the book quite a bit. I loved the tone of the writing, and although the ending left me sad, I enjoyed the stories of the two girls in the book.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I just finished Murder on the Ghost Walk. It's a quick and easy cozy mystery. This is the first book in the series, which is set in a small town down on Cape Fear. The sleuth in this series is an historic Preservationist who specializes in restoring historic homes. Appearantly, from what I've read, each of the houses that she works on has a "real" ghost in it. Since I love 1) cozies, and 2) ghosts I figured this would be a winner. Liked this first book. Now I just need to see if the rest of the series is any good.

message 5: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 2 comments I am currently reading The Passage (The Passage #1) by Justin Cronin , loving this book, it is taking me a month to read - but very good book.

also listening to Last Night at the Lobster by Stewart O'Nan - my first book by this author - this is a short one - and basically it is about the closing of a restaurant and the lives of the employees that are working there - pretty good so far.

Dorothy (vilette) | 208 comments I've just discovered Kwei Quartey and am listening to his mystery set in Ghana called Wife of the Gods. It is really different to read a mystery set in what is to me an exotic setting. I'm listening to it on audio and enjoying the rhythm of the African language.

message 26: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments Defending Jacob by William Landay by William Landay. I have a son in middle school that I'm going to start watching like a hawk- this book is really scary if you're a parent of a kid in middle school.

Hammered (Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne by Kevin Hearne- I've resisted reading this series. Plus, I just have pretty much stopped reading urban fantasy type books that weren't written by favorite authors. But, I started this series last week and can't stop. Book 4 comes out in a few weeks.

Yes, push it to the top of Mount TBR! I think one of my complaints with the whole UF genre is that a lot of the books are overly dark and serious. This one has humor in it.

message 37: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I've been on a real reading roll for the last two months. I have a new system going. I listen to one book in my car and home while doing things around the house. I read an e book on my I PAD and a conventional book for those times when I don 't want to bring my I PAD. I alrady lost one so I am really neurotic about the new one.

So what am I reading now - I just finished listening to Fade Away by Harlan Coben. He is one of my fave authors but previous to the last few months I only read his stand alone books. Now I am rading the Myron Bolitar series and think the main character is great. Later today I will pick up another title from the library. My e book is The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley which is historical fiction. My conventional book is another HF book The Bungalow by Sarah Jio and in some respects this book is similar to The Orchid House.

message 38: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I finished listening to Fade Away by Harlan Coben. I find I really must pay atttention to his books every minute becauswe they're so convoluted that by the end I sometimes need to go back and listen to the ending again.

So far, I'm LOVING it. Saw the movie (which I also loved) and had no idea about so much of the backstory of the characters! OMG - now it makes so much more sense! I'm about 1/3 of the way through the audiobook, but it travels on my commute (70 minutes total) each day, and now, because I'm enjoying it, it's going with my on my running workouts (about 90 minutes, 4x/week), so I anticipate being done next week! I'll let you know!
