Gorfo Ok well I'm officially going to watch that movie! If you like books that really appeal to the maternal side of you heart I strongly recommend Every Last One by Anna Quindlen, if you haven't rd it already. I cried my eyes out!

What did you think of the poetry in this novel?

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) this book was just awesome i really have no words to describe how i felt reading it.
After reading this decided to read looking for alaska but sadly didnt live up to the awesomeness of this book.

Yay! I have successfully gotten you hooked on John Green! Because of this book I did an intensive study of Wallace Stevens, the poet who wroter "13 ways of looking at a Blackbird" & because of his book "Paper Towns" I read the poem "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. There's no doubt that John Green has had an enormous impact on my reading outside of his own writing!

Sadeem (saddy_blue) | 26 comments This is my frist time reading anything by John Green. I have to say I think I will definitely try reading more of his books. I really like his "voice." I am only halfway through the book now, and I am really enjoying it.

This was also my first John Green book. I agree with you that I really like his "voice." It made me want to go and read all of his other books. I have finished Looking for Alaska and now I'm about to read Paper Towns.

Yay! I don't really know how to describe the voice. I think it's interesting that a pretty nerdy guy of just over 30 can write with such ease from the perspective of a teenage girl. I feel like his characters have the ring of truth about them. His stories are woven not from the image of how things should be, but perhaps real life experiences. And her communicates this with such wry humor. OH MY GOSH I LOVE JOHN GREEN

When I started reading the book, I thought he was a young teenage author. I was absolutely shocked that he turned out to be around 30. But if you've looked at his blog, you wouldn't be so surprised, I honestly think it's amazing how he keeps young and crazy like that, I wish I could do the same. I finished the book a couple of days ago, and there were a lot of tears, of course. I am looking forward to reading more of his books, but they'll have to wait their turn, I'm afraid.

I think you're right, Gorfo, his characters ring true, especially in this book. I feel like he was trying to tell people something about cancer patients aside from the all the sentimental stuff we get in movies. I remember one day my husband saying to me "if i get cancer and die, please don't say I died after a long battle with cancer" I couldn't help but think of that when I was reading the book.

Yeah. When I first heard this book was about a cancer patient I had the basic outline of a plot in my mind before I even read it. We stereotype cancer patients a lot. This book just completely blew up all those stereotypes, and that's the reason this book is so refreshing!
