Amber Center | 9 comments I love Kelley Armstrong's adult series (Women of the Otherworld) and her YA series set in the same world that also has mention of characters in her adult series is wonderful. You don't have to have read the adult series to understand it, but having read both I enjoy it all the more. I love the world she has createdDarkest Powers & Darkness Rising series

The Summoning
The Awakening
The Reckoning
The Gathering
The Calling

Jill My favourites would have to be ilona Andrews , they have made an awesome world in the Kate Daniels series. I am only new to it but have read everything available, I just had to have it all once I had started. Also I love Kim harrison love everything about the hollows series. What a great story, love the characters, jenks is a favourite, Rachel is amazing and i can't wait for more Trent. He somehow reminds me of Barron's from the fever series. That leads me to say Karen Marie morning. Gah her fever series is the best best best. That's it, these are my favourites.

I love Robin McKinley her writing is lyrical and dreamy.
Tamora Pierce, Girl power, magic, responsibility, standing up for the right thing...
J.K. Rowling, Does HP need explaining... World building

Eoin Colfer Is witty and funny and fast paced action, and Jonathan Stroud for the same reasons

Jill The books you have listed I would of classified as fantasy, but not urban fantasy. To me the authors I have listed are urban fantasy, they certainly aren't paranormal romance, romance is not the focus of these novels even though there is some there, not in every book however.
The world building is there in all the novels. How do you classify them?
( by the way I am not writing aggressively, I re read what I have written and It could be taken as so, I just want to know if they are urban fantasy as i believe them to be) :-)

Liz I LOVE Laini Taylor, http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/.... She writes well-crafted, original, compelling novels in beautiful lyrical prose. Often I reread passages to savor them. Here are some favs:

“Kizzy wanted it all so bad her soul leaned half out of her body hungering after it, and that was what drove the goblins wild, her soul hanging out there like an untucked shirt.”

***

“Heavily and hypnotically, with her soul flattening itself back like the ears of a hissing cat,Kizzy leaned in and drank of Jack Husk's full, moist mouth, and his red,red lips were hungry against hers, drinking her in return.Their eyes closed.Fingers clutched at collars and hair,at the picnic blanket,at the grass. And as they sank down, pinning their shadows beneath them, the horizon tipped on its side, and slowly, thickly, hour by hour, the day spilled out and ebbed away.

It was Kizzy's first kiss, and maybe it was her last, and it was delicious.”

― Laini Taylor, Lips Touch: Three Times

Lips Touch Three Times is my absolute favorite book because of the writing, imagery, mood. It was the first book I read by her, and I fell head over heals in love with her style (it obviously touches the young adult soul in me :D ) I've now read all of her books, and she's an automatic buy for me. Her blog is the only author blog I read on a regular basis. She's an original.

Her most recent book, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84... , is great and I believe is going to be a trilogy.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/59... Blackbringer is the first book in a middle grade series, but don't be put off because of its targeted audience. It's extraordinary and worth every second.

Sonia (darktalynn) Richelle Mead of course. Vampire Academy series is amazing and Bloodlines follows the same lines. I can't hardly wait to The Golden Lily to be out!

Tracy (teelee) | 6 comments Kim Harrison does have a YA series. I haven't read it and don't remember what it's called but there are at least three books in her YA series.
Kelley Armstrong would be my favourite YA author in these genres followed by Amber Kizer, Jeri Smith-Ready, Lesley Livingston, Deborah Cooke, Veronica Roth(more post-Apocalypse), Juliet Marillier, Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires, there are just so many.
These are the authors that I buy a soon as a new one comes out.
