Lana Bradstream | 145 comments My book, ETHEREAL INFLUENCE: THE BIRTH, is not getting good sales. Not even mediocre sales. Someone suggested to me that the title is what is turning people away. He told me that "ethereal" is not a word used by most people and that they do not understand it. Is there any merit to this? I'm working on the second book in the series and if the suggestion is a good one, I was thinking of going with CELESTIAL INFLUENCE. I would love some comments and/or suggestions.

Jim Galford (jgalford) | 29 comments Gotta say I'm a little surprised. Usually, reviews/ratings = sales. Every time I get a new review, my sales bump up for a while. You've got a ton of ratings and a few reviews, so the low sales is a little surprising.

Generally, I don't see a word like ethereal (or any of its many variant spellings) being an issue. Even if people don't quite "get" what the word means, it tends not to turn them off.

I'd lean towards marketing and back cover text...they tend to be the culprit if sales are low after getting reviews/ratings, at least from what I've seen and heard.

Lana Bradstream | 145 comments I'm really trying the marketing -- spreading the word, dropping the price. So far, nothing. What is back cover text?

Jim Galford (jgalford) | 29 comments It's the blurb you post online for ebooks, or the printed text on the back cover if you have a print edition (wasn't sure if you did).

Lyla (idruzy) I think it's the synopsis as well. I just took a look at it. It sounds like an interesting read, but the synopsis is a bit bland. It didn't feel engaging to me.

I think that's what Jim meant by "back cover text."

To be honest, I like the Ethereal word.

Jim Galford (jgalford) | 29 comments Yep, exactly. Sorry...old terminology.

Lana Bradstream | 145 comments So, amp up the summary of the book? I could do that! Thank you!

Jim Galford (jgalford) | 29 comments Next, big focus on giveaways, bloggers, etc. It's the only thing I've found that works well if you don't have a nitch that drags customers in kicking and screaming. :)

Lyla (idruzy) The niche has a following. Everyone's into those "other worldly beings" books now days. I just know that as a reader, the synopsis was "eh" even though the basis of the story sounded good.

Make it snazzy :D I couldn't tell you how many times I got suckered in by a really good summary lol.

Lyla (idruzy) Jim has really good ideas!
