Jan | 3 comments I have the suspicion the whole series by TASCHEN, called Movies of the 20s / 30s / etc. , or Filme der 20er / 30er / etc in Germany uses the same ISBN for the different language editions. So the German release has the exact same ISBN as the English one.

How can we handle these? I wouldn't be surprised if most of Taschen's books are like this.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments You would create an Alternate Cover Edition.

Jan | 3 comments Uhm, but it's not just an alternate cover or edition. It has a different title and language, things which can't be tracked properly at all that way. It should be possible to tell from the entry that this book is available in more than one language.

Ah well, such is the life of a good database designer, you only learn to appreciate them once it is too late and a crucial mistake such as choosing the ISBN as a primary key has been made.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Yep - if more than one book share an ISBN then a alternate edition is created noting the ISBN in the description and in a librarian note so that they do not get deleted
