Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Does anyone know the details on this? Does it include Audible since it is part of Amazon?

Kaetrin brought this up on our "Need Audiobook Details Updated" thread last week. Here's the message from Goodreads:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

It sounds like possible chaos - any opinions??

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments apparently it doesn't include audible from what the powers that be have said

it has been chaos all this week - but they just finished a 14 million book data import from their new source, that has hopefully cleared up a lot of the issues

Carolyn F. Now the other audiobook group I'm in says it does affect Audible. Uh oh.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Does this mean, as I have heard rumored, that books can disappear from our bookshelves? And if that is so, would our reviews, thoughts, grading, etc. be lost as well on those books?

I must admit I'm still in the dark on this and the article I referenced in my original post must be getting a lot of attention. Each time I try to take another look tonight, Goodreads system is too busy for me to read it.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Okay - I just got through to the message and thought I'd post one paragraph:

"Member ratings, reviews, and bookshelves are safe, but your data may be moved to a different edition of the book. If we can't find a matching edition, then your review will be attached to a book with no title or author. But the good news is that there's a way you can help."

Maybe the books that will be most affected are those that are only available through Audible??

Carolyn F. They have a bunch of threads about it in this group http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5....

I did receive an e-mail from Goodreads http://www.goodreads.com/rescue_books... to help convert some of the books over since I'm a Goodreads librarian.

They've been giving a warning at the top of some of the books I've pulled up about it might not be there after 01/30/12.

Kelli (oddiophile) It's my understanding that the Amazon information that will be removed was imported directly from Amazon by Goodreads itself. I don't believe information was imported from Audible, even though it is an Amazon company. I think most Audible books were added manually and so should be OK. A good way to check is to go to this link: http://www.goodreads.com/rescue_books... and it will tell you if any of the books on your specific shelves are in danger of a) disappearing completely or b) merging with another version. In either case, Goodreads has stated "Member ratings, reviews, and bookshelves are safe, but your data may be moved to a different edition of the book. If we can't find a matching edition, then your review will be attached to a book with no title or author."

Carolyn F. I just rescued about 13 books and half were audiobooks that weren't added through Amazon, they were cassettes. None of my Audible books needed to be rescued.

When I go to this link, I see a discussion and it tells me that I do not have permission to be part of the discussion. Can I find an actual list there?

Carolyn F. Yes, but you may have to join Lea. Then you can quit right after if you want. But they really talk about it in that group because A LOT of them get their books from Audible.

message 11: by Kaetrin (new)

Kaetrin | 93 comments Well, I've rescued all my books (there were about 10) and my books/reviews/data is all safe. I've lost a lot of covers though :(

message 12: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments the covers should start coming back in the next week or so - they are still importing that stuff from ingrams - there was something like 14 million book data that they got...first pull was title/author/isbn - second one is going to be descriptions, covers etc

message 13: by Kaetrin (new)

Kaetrin | 93 comments Thx Dee! that makes me feel better. I figured to at least wait until after all the Amazon data is definitely gone before I started to fiddle about - but I will give it some time and see if they come back.

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Good news - all mine were rescued. I'm missing a lot of covers and haven't looked closer. I'll wait a couple of weeks to take a another look!

Do I need to make an official check for the Speaking of Audiobooks shelf?

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) Wow, my bookshelf looks tremendously better than two days ago. Haven't found anything to worry about.
