Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments I don't think I would consider the pope a politician...and yes Fiona you can change the books you use for each task at anytime.

message 255: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 03, 2008 08:35AM) (new)

Well, I'm just gonna do my best (and maybe I'll have to be creative with the tasks ; )). Let's see if I can manage 100 points. Is that being too ambitious?

Cynthia said: I don't think I would consider the pope a politician I think he could be considered more like a monarch or something... he makes political statements every now and then.

and come on... it's only the 3rd of december and people have points already!! When do you guys sleep!!

message 256: by Sera (new)

Sera LOL - Hayes! I know that I have a few books over 50% read so that gave me a little bit of a head start :)

message 257: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Hayes, we can do without sleep but not without reading:-) I just finished my first book for the challenge: Niente di nuovo al fronte occidentale...so not too long. Next one will be a christmas carol which isn't long either. But the tirth one is Sepulchre, over 700pages!

Than Your Own.

Can I read Anne Donavan's 'buddha da'?

message 263: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (mamamunky) Cynthia, I was just wondering why I'm not on the Leader board. I put up a book for 15 pts the other day. For the Read a book about a religion other than your own task. I read "Being Muslim" by Siddiqui.

message 264: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (mamamunky) I agree, the Pope is a monarch, since he's the sovereign head of Vatican City, but doesn't that make him a politician?

message 265: by Heather (new)

Heather Holy Cow! I agree with Hayes...do you people sleep or work?!?! HaHa! It's only day 3 and there are already 268 posts. It makes my head spin and I haven't had a chance to start the challenge myself (I'll start tonight though).

Cynthia, how do you keep your head from spinning off your neck? :-0 God bless ya!

message 266: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) 5 POINT TASK

8. Read A Book Whose Title Contains The Word Winter, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other winter holiday.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

message 267: by [deleted user] (new)

I really need to get working on my list. I am procastrating

message 268: by Cynthia (last edited Dec 03, 2008 03:47PM) (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Lisa - my family has 9 dogs altogether (3 weims, 4 English Bulldogs, 1 frenchie, and 1 cocker spaniel)

Sera - re. message 260 reminder books you've read MORE than 50% of before DEC. 1 won't count towards points in the challenge - only if you have 50% or less read before that date can you can use them.

Lindsey - so sorry I missed your points but I've added you to the list. And after taking a look at Wikepedia - I will accept the Pope as a political character for that challenge.

Heather 1 of many - it's a challenge but I love it!!!

Fiona - Buddha Da is a fiction book and the challenge is a non-fiction challenge so no it won't count.

If I miss updating your points please let me know so I can fix it.

Announcement - I'll be going out of town this weekend DEC 6-8 (a baby shower and a christmas party) and I don't think I'll be on during that time so don't worry if you don't see me - I'll be back!!!

message 269: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Emilee - you can tell you're a divorced woman (pro-castrating!) LOL

:)

message 270: by [deleted user] (new)

I was that way before. But I think I'm a bit worse. Still trying to juggle the single mom bit but it's worse since my oldest started highschool and is in all these clubs. I swear I should just live at the highschool

message 271: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yeah, just move right in. Do they have those trailer classrooms out front? You could at least stow a laptop and a sleeping bag there or something. :)

message 272: by [deleted user] (new)

No they don't but maybe I could move into the baseball field ticket booth.

message 273: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Ann from S.C. is there a time frame for your 25 point challenge?

I picked up East of Eden about a month ago, read about 15 pages, but I really did not care for it, so I gave up on it.

Alice (aliceg) | 254 comments Darla I think someone said before that blood doesn't count as a body part you might want to check that out!

I started the challenge last night and as so many of you seem to be bringing in the points already I thought I'd start on a 25 pointer! So am reading My Father's Wives for a book that is set in a country beginning with the same letter as my name. I'll let you know when i've finished it!

Alice x

message 282: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Cynthia, who is doing the 25pts challenge? Just the 3 who won the Fall challenge or are we all to add to that?

message 283: by Alice (new)

Alice (aliceg) | 254 comments Oh I didn't realise that not everyone was to do the 25point challenges! And I had books I wanted to read for that!!!

message 288: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments No, any book you have tried to read, but never finished. Someone had asked about EOE. Mine is LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA.

message 289: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Its between Hollywood Wives - Jackie Collins or Lost Souls - Neil White (which I found out is a sequel to Fallen Idols).

message 290: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Yes, Jackis Collins is one I have not been able to read. I don't knoe Neil White.

message 291: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/w/n...

message 292: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments We can all try to get that 25 points task.

message 293: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments did get it right that for the 25 points you can only choose one of the suggestions, right? You can't do all three and get every time 25 points...or can you?

message 294: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Jeane, would be amazing if u could lol.

message 295: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) For anyone who's already read it: would The Double Bind (by Chris Bojalian) count for the mentally/physically handicapped main character task? I just got it from PaperbackSwap, and I can't wait to start it. I know one of the characters has a mental issue, but I wasn't sure about the main character...although I've heard there's a twist in the story, and I've flipped through the book just a little bit (I was intrigued by the pictures) so I'm thinking maybe the main character does, too? But I don't want to ruin it for myself and read anymore ahead! :) So can someone just tell me yes or no - it will work or it won't?

message 296: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Ann- I picked it up again last night and read 15 more pages and ugh!! I just do not understand some of the writing and I am finding it boring. But I guess it is 25 pts, so I will continue :)

message 297: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments 5 point task-Check out a book from your local library.

Good Luck- Whitney Gaskell

Total 5 Points.

message 298: by Liz M (last edited Dec 04, 2008 06:04AM) (new)

Liz M Alice & Darla, waaaay back in post #23 Cynthia did approve of the use of Blood as a body part (I was going to ask the same question, so i took note of the response).

Text from Post #23:
Darla - I was thinking more in terms of organs or appendages for that one but as long as it is blood and not bloody I'll accept that.

message 299: by Alice (last edited Dec 04, 2008 07:44AM) (new)

Alice (aliceg) | 254 comments Can we only do one of the 25 point tasks? If that's true it gets me off having to read cloud atlas! I assumed that we could do any/all of the tasks.

(sorry about the blood should've taken more attention to the reply!)

message 300: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments You can do all of the 25 point tasks.
