Wanting to know if I can use Everything I Need to Know about Being a Girl I learned From Judy Blume...
There is a lot of facts about being Jewish in the essays of this book. I myself am not Jewish I learned a few more things about the religion that I did not know so there for I'd like to use this book. Therefore that being said if this book is accepted my points would then be 40

I Am the Messenger - you can't compare this one to Book Thief, they are apples and oranges, but this is a 5-star read IMO. Especially if you've always wondered if you could make a difference (in the world, in your community, whatever). It's amazing how a small thing to you can be huge to someone else. And this book made me see that. In a big way. I want to be a Messenger!

Inspirational, funny, and he does have a unique delivery which for me is interesting and lovable.

I thought The Dante Club was a solid B book. At times it was very engaging, but sometimes it got a little slow. It reminded me a lot of The Interpretation of Murder. If you like that, you'll probably like The Dante Club. Overall, good historical fiction but the mystery part wasn't that great.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) I finished 2001: A Space Odyssey (audiobook) today... finally. I was happy for it to be over. It was pretty dry. I checked the movie out from the library, so I'll give THAT a try, since it's only like ... oh, geez... 148 minutes long. Well, it ought to be interesting, since it was made in 1968.

Lindsey (mamamunky) Does Great Britain count as a country for the 1st 25 point task?

message 1632: by SusannaW (new)

SusannaW (susannauk) | 51 comments Hi

Technically Great Britain refers to the geological island of England, Scotland and Wales, it isn't a country. (in the same way America refers to the continent, not a country).

I believe it is legally possible to use 'Britain' as a replacement for 'the UK', but not Great Britain...

Sara ♥ (saranicole) Technicalities... When I was living in South Korea, I played Scattergories with some Korean people. I put down "South Korea" as a country beginning with S (apparently Sweden and South Africa didn't come to mind), but they didn't let me count it, because they call the country just plain "Korea"... That's a really good question. I believe THEY call it 조선 (Cho-sun) (not to be confused with 'chosen'...). But it's called The Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Which is funny, because they're communist...

On another note, I just finished Blood and Chocolate for 15 pts. I'm at 220 now. (I'll most gladly eat the corresponding chocolate (which does NOT have blood in it... just caramel) as soon as I post this.)

I need to work on Northanger Abbey with a little extra diligence, because I have to finish that before I can start on Sense and Sensibility (best adapted screenplay).

Jon Technically Great Britain refers to the geological island of England, Scotland and Wales, it isn't a country. (in the same way America refers to the continent, not a country).

I believe it is legally possible to use 'Britain' as a replacement for 'the UK', but not Great Britain...

I would have to go along with that if we were being technical - no-one would say they were from Britain although they might say they were British,

Its 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island' to be precise - so the UK - you could have England, Scotland or Wales as countries but not Britain

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments If I remember well someone already asled that question before and the answer was that it wasn't seen as a country, which it isn't.

1. Takes Place in China or Was Written By a Chinese Author: Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress A Novel by Dai Sijie

I was surprised how much I liked this book. I bought it mostly for its gorgeous cover but the story turned out to be very engaging. And I have to say that the translator did a beautiful job (it was originally written in French).

Total Points: 245

You know, Heather, it was such a huge build-up to the ending. And the ending was NOT huge. Not for the build-up it got. So I still gave it 5 stars, but say the ending is 4 stars.

To be honest, parts of the ending still don't make complete sense to me, but I feel that may be part of the beauty of the book - esp. since it's aimed at the YA crowd - that it would lead to discussions, etc. Maybe I'll PM you so we can speak in greater detail - or better yet - we could post a spoilers thread to discuss it, so everyone could join in.
