I was amazed at how prophetic he was. I also really enjoyed reading his afterward in the 50th anniversary edition. He wrote a brief essay about how his book on censorship was being edited and shrunken into nothing for anthologies (to fit 400 stories into a single volume)- and told those publishers to take a flying leap. He also responded to those who criticise his stories and ask for more pc revisions. I loved it. He said even if he agreed with their sentiments "I wouldn't change a young writer's work, not even my own" (paraphrased).
Thanks Cynthia, for using this challenge. I feel like I accomplished an actual life goal! :)

just finished it - thats whats good about the challenge, makes you diversify a bit - I gave it 3 stars, theres a lot of detail so you have to pay attention, it can get confusing at times, but so well researched and based on the authors predictions on what he thought was actually a possibility in 2001. Its more than just a fantasy in that regard, which made it more interesting. I feel like i have to give the movie another bash now as I think it probably is something that it helps to visualise. I just remember the really bad ape suits and grunting at the start putting me off despite it being in all the great movie lists. I wasnt entirely comfortable with the fact that his idea was that mans evolution helped along with a bit of alien tinkering though (thats chapter one so only the mildsest of spoilers). I did get a little annoyed at one reviewers fundamentalist view that she didnt beleive in evolution at all or that we were descended from apes but I suppose everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

I enjoyed it and would recommend it--the style is different so that takes some getting used to. Also, there is some language, so if you're easily offended, I wouldn't pick it up--nothing too bad in my opinion, but I know others look at it differently. There is also a lot of Spanish throughout and I didn't feel like looking things up (feeling lazy over the holidays), so I think I missed some stuff.
