As we have now a bit bigger membership than was ever expected, it would be nice to have a real, proper introduction to the club and its... intricacies. Let's hope it won't be too much of hassle for reading.

Obviously, Books2Movies Club is dedicated to books and movies adapted from the books, regardless of genre, date and place of origin. According to that mission, there are currently three major sections of the club: Monthly Reads, Quick Reads and Spotlighted Reads.

Before going into details now, let's say this, don't panic. The club does not require non-stop participation nor is book reading and movies watching obligatory every month, but it would be more than welcome once in a while. If you need some posting guidance, please take a look at General Guidelines for details. If something doesn't seem clear yet, feel free to ask there what do you wish to know.

Monthly Reads.
Monthly Reads are in general lengthier books, that require some time to be read, so this section is every month divided into two topics - one for a book and second for related movies. Some prefer to read the book first, some to see the movies first, whilst some have seen the movies before even being aware there was the book first. So, by dividing the thread into two main topics, you may join whichever discussion you like.

First we vote for the genre of the books that can be therefore nominated. There are each year ten genres plus two random choices, as explained in the Genre Selection Thread. The poll is taken usually bimonthly, in a way that top two "winners" are the genre choices for the next two months, after which these genres are excluded from all the following polls until after exhausting all of them for that year. According to the genre chosen, members post their nominations, after which moderators generate the poll. The book reading starts formally on the 1st of the month, which means regular discussions will be open around that time.

If you have already read the book of the next month, please be considerate of other members who haven't and/or are just preparing themselves to read it. Please, don't start individual discussions about it before the scheduled time. Same applies for Quick Reads. Also, here it is customary to open Monthly Read and Quick Read discussions with some kind of introduction, at least it was so far.

If interested in the books we have already read, discussions for them are always open. Jump in freely whenever you like! In the thread Books We Have Read So Far are also links that will lead you directly to the related discussions.

Quick Reads.
There is quite a number of movies adapted from shorter works, faster to read - like plays, novellas, short stories, graphic novels. Here we give them also an opportunity to shine out, every month in between the reading of two consecutive Monthly Reads. That refers to the period from the 15th of the current month to the 14th of the next month.

However, to make things simpler, voting for Quick Reads is done bimonthly. That means, after concluding the Quick Read nominations, the first two picks on the top in the poll are going to be the Quick Read choices for the next two months.

Spotlighted Reads.
Spotlighted Reads is just a casual thread not concerning the polls and the group bookshelf but is special in a way it is supposed to follow brand new adaptations currently in the cinemas or are going to be soon. We are going to post here news, rumors and expectations, but also members’ reviews of the movies and/or related books.

If a special request was made by a member, a book with a movie at the moment in cinemas may be added to our bookshelf, to timely promote both the book and the movie. Only one request per month will be allowed, to keep the monthly shelf space reasonable.

Members' Corner and Other Topics.
A club without members makes no sense, so please introduce yourself in the Members' Corner, where you may also talk about any books and movies you've seen recently, and basically about anything that comes to your mind. Here you may also play games and puzzles linked to the movies and books.

If you would like to make any book suggestion out of ordinary nominations time and genre, please post them in the thread Random Reading Suggestions or if it would be more specific, in the Genre Selection Thread.

Any other ideas and suggestions would be welcomed here.

Let’s conclude this topic... This club exists for all of us who are here for the same reason - to have a good time in the company of other booklovers and moviegoers. Moderators will try to adapt according to your wishes and make some improvements and enhancements once in a while at least, but let’s not forget, what makes the essence of this club, are the discussions that encourage reading and watching with an open mind, with thinking and with understanding among fellow readers. Not necessarily in that order ;)

Nothing much changed in the structure of the club, but after the post above was written there were some novelties added to the group:

Books2Movies Projects
A huge folder for ambitious readers, who wish to track certain books and movies during a longer period of time, according to the theme and the schedule of some particular project. You can see which ones are currently active in Books2Movies Projects -- Done or In Progress thread.

From Books to TV Shows
A folder dedicated to books that were made into TV shows. Similar to Books2Movies Project, but concerning specific book series or characters. You can check the main thread here.

Buddy Reads
For those looking for someone to read some particular books together, check the main thread about buddy reads here.
