Nina did you like this

Elia Love it! Sachar is a terrific children's author, and I find his work very funny!

Whitney It wasn't bad. Pretty creative.

Shannon Hello Nina: I really enjoyed the book. It was engaging and the story held my interest. The twists and turns of the "camp" experience was a fun journey to go on. I cannot remember if we read it as a family read aloud or not, but I do know that all of my children read it with each of the 4 agreeing with me that it was a good book.

Katherine I haven't read his other books but I've read this one about eight times.

Glad you enjoyed it Nina. Hope you enjoy some of the other books you are planning to read this year.

April Great book, good movie too.

Morgane This book is one of my favorites. It's all about character development and parallels between stories (the best things about novels if you ask me). That moment when they climb the hill and solve the old curse, the reason of the holes and the climax were just awesome.

Julia Harrison Loved this, haven't read it in years but the love story is still one of the most romantic ever - "I can fix that!"

I thought the movie was better than the book but that's just me.

message 23: by Jojo (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jojo I loved the book! The movie was good too.

Mimi ❤ It had such great layer with memorable characters! It was really touching in such a tranquil way. It was completely different from all the children books I've ever read.

message 26: by Judy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Judy Oh yes I loved this book! I read it for class when I was about 14 years old, I am german and I think it helped me a lot in learning english. The language is easy but not too simplistic to be tiring.
I totally recommend it!

Arianna S. I love this book its awsome

Tasha This book was so good - wasn't expecting it to be so amazing. The movie was amazing as well! Can't wait to read other books by him like 'Small Steps'!

message 29: by A. (new)

A. This book is unprecedented. You just can't predict what will happen next. I remember how I found out about it. I saw an interview with Daniel Radcliff where he was asked what book he was currently reading. He said how funny "Holes" was and that he couldn't put it down. I wasn't disappointed.

Savannah havent read it yet

Sandy Bernstein Loved this book! I really liked the way all of the time jumps and seemingly different plot lines all converged at the end and made perfect sense.
I especially like the way the villainous in the book is portrayed as not being particularly violent and also never raises her voice, but still manages to be insanely scary. I think it was precisely because she was so controlled that she was as scary as she was.

Shyam I read this book a long time ago. I think it was a pretty creative plot.

Shyam I really like the bond that the characters share with each other.

Charlotte Really excellent book both my son, who read it as a young teenager and who originally recommended I read it, and I both agree it is a great read!

Daisy W yes!!! mustaches!!!!

message 39: by Heavyn (new)

Heavyn Kenner one of my favorites :)

Laurnelle Beukes It was amazing! My favourite character was Hector!

Aisha loved both the book and movie! (although stanley's personality changed)

message 42: by Ella (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ella I read this in school and it has stayed with me I felt there was always a mystery to it and the film had great actors too.

rayken I loved how the character's lives were divinely intertwined, when Stanley's ancestor broke his promise to Hector's, the universe gave the youngest Stanley the chance to right the wrong, I found that wonderful. And then there is Kissing Kate Barlow, her story was both sad and beautiful.

Fatima This book is amazing. I love how it is an happy ending.

Salome Great book! a real feel-good story! Great to read to your kids.

Alyssa It was an amazing book!

message 47: by Ariel (new) - added it

Ariel first i watched the movie when i was to little to read then i read the book and i still liked the book even though the move spoiled the ending

Jaime I watched the movie first, we got taken to see it and my friend and I thought it sounded rubbish. (Obviously we got told the plot badly).
Absolutely loved it, both of us bought and read the book after, and are still big fans now.

I think they did well to keep the book and film so closely linked. It usually matters what medium you are introduced to first but here it makes little difference.
Intrigued to read the spin off story of Armpit in 'Small Steps'.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

I quite liked it when I read it. The first time I read this was when I had it read to me by my teacher in grade 3.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

This was my favorite book back when I was a kid... alongside Charlotte's Web.
