Agreed! A town near me closed down their downtown area for 2 days when the last book was released (Friday and Saturday) to have a party. Many stores participated, temporarily changing their store names to Potter-related names, etc. It was totally awesome for both the kids and the adults!

I Love HIM!

message 155: by Jess (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jess I think HP will be remembered more...
1. He's been around longer.
2. A wider range of audience reads the series- Twilight is MOSTLY (I know many others read it too) teenage girls, HP is liked by boys and girls, elementary students and adults.
3. HP was not only published earlier, but the movies are spread out over a longer period of time. The movies and the books have just been around longer, and have had more time for people to get hooked on them.
4. Not sure about this, but my guess is that since HP was written by an English author in Scotland, it's more popular globally. I'm sure Twilight has made it overseas, but I think it's not as popular is other countries.
5. Similarly, it's British. Nuff said.
Just my thoughts. :)

I agree!

message 157: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Although I didn't mind Twilight, Harry Potter will stand the test of time. The writing is of a much, much better quality, and it appeals to a much larger audience. Twilight will be remembered for a while, but I don't expect it to be around when my girls are teens (they are 6 and 4 now). Harry Potter will be there when my kids and probably grandkids are ready to read them.

Bahahaha :) Anyone who criticizes Harry Potter for no good reason, and says Twilight is better needs to actually remember that Stephen King said, "Harry Potter is all about confronting fears, finding inner strength, and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend."

message 159: by [deleted user] (new)

:D love what Samah wrote. This is absolutely true. Harry Potter will survive time! Best series ever.

message 160: by Wendy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Wendy Harry Potter! was adventurous, interesting, enjoyed by the whole family, young and old! twilight No, not interesting, not for whole family, and daughter and I thought Bella was too whiny and depressing, hated it! no comparison Harry Potter out ranks Twlight!!

Nichole Wolfe omg i love that stephen king quote!

I don't actually think that anyone voted for Twilight. P: Good for you! I have also read every single book seven times; I need to get out more...

Tiffunee Harry Potter, for sure.

message 165: by Diana (new) - rated it 4 stars

Diana Definitely Harry Potter. Even though both genre are fantasy, Harry Potter has better story line.

Jenna DEFINATELY HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION???????????????????

message 173: by Joy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joy Harry Potter. No doubt about that.

Natalie HP will be deemed a classic because it actually has the required elements to endure. Twilight is just a 'phase'. People will remember it, but I don't think it will ever be deemed a classic.

message 176: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily no contest on this one. Unless we are talking about being remembered for being poorly written.

message 177: by maura (new) - rated it 5 stars

maura There is ABSOLUTLEY no contest. Harry Potter would win by a LANDSLIDE!

Is your avatar a porygon?

Nichole Definitely Harry Potter. It had a wider audience, longer series, and was more well written. It will also be the kind of story that remains in people's minds. I can't say the same for Twilight. I will certainly forget Twilight existed within 3 years.

Tiffunee I agree, although both are fiction I can relate to Harry Potter on a more realistic level.

message 181: by Jenna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jenna ACTUALLY TWILIGHT WILL BE REMEMBERED TOO.
#1 REASON- THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO THINK IT IS THE GREATEST BOOK EVER, AND THEY RATED IT 5 STAR AND OTHER PEOPLE READ IT, AND THEN MORE, AND THEN MORE UNTIL FINALLY, EVERYBODY HAS READ IT AND YOU CANT FORGET IT IF EVERYBODY KNOWS IT.
#2 REASON- IT IS SO BAD YOU REMEMBER IT FOR BEING BAD.

maura Harry Potter's characters are a lot more... Unforgettable.
Harry and his braveness
Ron and his funniness
Hermionie and her smartness
Hagrid and his creatures
Voldemort and his snarl
Snape and his hatred
Dumbledore and his kindness
ETC!

message 185: by Marisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marisa Harry Potter will be like Shakespeare's works in 200 years.

message 186: by Faith (new) - rated it 5 stars

Faith Kilgore Harry Potter will be transcendental.

I totally agrrree. DEFIELTY something to remmber

message 188: by Ricotn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ricotn Harry Potter. It is enjoyed by both genders and all ages where Twilight is geared towards a teens and young women. The writing is better in Harry Potter.

message 189: by Lexie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lexie Smith Harry Potter, all day every day. Twilight went through it's one little fad that lasted about a year. And now, everyone's calmed down about it. But Harry Potter? We've had Potter heads since day one. And we've still got Potter heads. There's an entire amusement park dedicated to this wonderful series. What's Twilight have? A few t-shirts and some hot actors. Harry Potter will live forever.

message 190: by Erica (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erica Harry Potter will certainly make it into the realm of lasting classics. As a high school English teacher, I find myself referring back to Rowling's books in order to demonstrate a literary concept all the time.

message 191: by Regina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Regina Puckett Harry Potter without any doubt.

Lizabeth.bailey Harry Potter, definitely. I didn't even know about the series until I had to wait just inside the door at the local elementary school for my son every day and noticed a lot of the kids had these different Harry Potter books as they passed. I was wondering what had all of these kids reading which is a real feat where I live so I got the first one. I was hooked.

I think it will be remembered because it is not only popular with children of all ages but also adults. I have found it to be very rare when parents and children can actually talk about the same books they've read and carry on an intelligent conversation while doing so.

I only got interested in Twilight in order to have something to talk with my adult daughter about. The books are poorly written although the writing does seem to get better as more books were written. What is going to make Twilight memorable will be the movies.

message 193: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren Uh, Harry Potter, duh!! :) I haven't read the Twilight series yet, but Harry Potter is SUPER famous and creative. It's unique and one of a kind!

message 194: by emily c. (last edited Feb 29, 2012 04:36PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

emily c. Both will be remembered. One as the best; the other, well, we know what it is.

message 195: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren haha tru that! :)

Thanks for agreeing with me! my friends think that twilight will last.

Brittany I love Harry Potter but i think both will go down in history. As much as I don't like Twilight it's been huge just like Harry Potter.

message 198: by Kay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kay Harry Potter

message 199: by Jenny (new) - rated it 5 stars
