Hi and welcome!

message 952: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Howard Hello to all. My name is Kevin J. Howard and I'm very glad to be a member.

1.) I read my first Stephen King novel in fifth grade. My teacher thought it was odd to have a book report on Salem’s Lot, but had to do it.
2.) I once wrote a complete outline to a novel on the back of register tape while working at a calendar kiosk.
3.) Unable to stop writing. It's an addiction. I hand wrote my first novel when I was ten. Not the best story, but it was a good start.

I want to wish us all the best in everything we do.

Hi and welcome all newbies!

message 955: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Kevin, my daughter read Stephen King in second grade--a twelve part novella he wrote to go along with months of a calendar. (It was called Silver Bullet then, but they changed the title) The teacher had each kid write to her favorite author, and Robyn wrote to King. She's one of the few students who got a reply--on stationary with the picture of dripping blood on each side. She has it framed on her study's wall now.

wow!

message 957: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Yeah, I was pretty surprised. The kids who wrote to children's authors didn't get anything back. King said that it was wonderful that she loved to read and that maybe someday, she'd even become a writer, like him.

Judith Post | 622 comments Do you have a new e-reader yet? Did you ever get the Kobo you won?

message 960: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
nope. the card can only be used on kobo.com. currently they're out of e-readers. how does kobo.com run out of kobos?!

message 961: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Bummer. You'd think they'd stock kobo.com before they stocked anything else. Will they send you one if and when they get any more kobos? But you're still reading a lot of books, aren't you?

message 962: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
no, they don't ship to pakistan. If I ever get it, I'll have to get it imported. Yeah, i'm reading on my PC

message 963: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments I'm thinking it must be expensive to get it imported. Cost prohibitive?

message 964: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (last edited Aug 22, 2012 10:16AM) (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
yep, very expensive!

message 965: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Sorry. That stinks.

hi Candy! *feigns shock accordingly* welcome to the group!

message 969: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Hi, Candy! I live in northeast Indiana--we're almost neighbors.

message 970: by Candy (new)

Candy Crum (candacemcrum) | 3 comments Thanks for the warm welcome!!! :D Most appreciated!
And Judith, thats always interesting to me when I meet someone close! I flipped when I found out another author/friend Rue Volley lived in Indy!! haha. She's moved to Ohio now I believe - so no more cool claims to that one. But its always fun meeting other people from the area!

message 971: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Indiana's a long state, but glad you're in its boundaries.

Hello everyone...I was thinking do you think we should change the name of this group...maybe it should have a better name...what do you all think?

message 973: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
suggestions?

message 974: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Beard (jabeard) | 654 comments I liked the name myself...

I guess the first step is to establish what you think the name isn't reflecting, maybe.

message 975: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
me too. it was supposed to be where GR and MC connect, y'know?

message 976: by Gin, is sneaky! (new)

Gin | 1171 comments Mod
What were you wanting to change the name to Tana?

message 977: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments I liked the name too--just a way to say "hi there," but I never really thought about it either. I leave that to you guys.

message 978: by Tana, keeps deleting her nicknames! (new)

Tana (tana_t) | 3016 comments Mod
I don't know I think I was worried the name didn't attracked any new members....most of them wouldn't know about the connections between mc and us...lol...but I like that name I am just always trying to think of ways to get more members reading all our fantastic authors books.

message 979: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments Aaah, I was just thinking of it as a friendly hello, but you're always thinking of connecting readers and writers. I see where you're coming from, and that's trickier. Maybe "Meet & Greet--for authors and readers to mingle"? I'm not good at naming stuff.

message 980: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Beard (jabeard) | 654 comments Well, you could make the connection more explicit with something like, "Making Connections: Nexus". Maybe that's too big, though.

Maybe I just like colons too much. :)

message 981: by Midu, loves Ratatouille (new)

Midu Hadi | 6726 comments Mod
a healthy colon is always good! I agree!

Tana!!

message 984: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 622 comments I guess editors prefer dashes to colons these days, so maybe healthy colons are passe.
