The Capitol - Clueless and Dumb, or thriving in Power?

I think the citizens were clueless. However the leaders were certainly not. They knew what they wanted.

Amen to that Nya.
Amen to that Nya.
What I meant with the interesting topic is...do you think they know their power and their forces, and they are proud of it, and are actually very strong and independant people, but with President Snow's insistance, they play make-up and act as if they don't know a thing?
Is that a possibility?
I, myself, believe the majority of the population was clueless. There may have been a few that were too well aware of that fact. Not to mention the government...
Back to the interesting topic:
To further explain something (an opinion that has crossed my mind, but hasn't stayed there) I thought for a moment there was a possibility they were proud but acted as if they weren't aware. President Snow could have insisted on this fact to make the citizens of the districts think the Capitol had no idea what was going on. It crossed my mind that maybe the Capitol's citizens did realize how crazy the Games were, but knew this as a way of keeping all and everyone in line. This is just one reason why they would act clueless. Though, there are the reasons of "Why not?" which lead me to conclude otherwise.

Yes, Snow was far from clueless.

I bet they were just afraid of the power. If they rebelled just a little everything would be taken. It reminds me of the Nazi's and how if you openly talked about going against Hitler you would be punished.

I wonder if Darius was totally aware...?

The citizens were for sure clueless. Just look at Octavia and Venia. But Snow and Plutarch and Seneca all knew. Heck, Seneca died because of what he did.
That's very true.
I would tell you why I know that, but then I'd have to kill you.

What would it have been like to be raised in the Capitol? What if Katniss and Peeta were both born and raised there? Do you think they'd ultimately find the Games amusing? Or would they still think it was wrong? I think the Capitol is clueless. They aren't the ones sending their children into war. How would they know? The citizens don't know anything, but the Leaders...sure, of course.
Interesting question. I guess if you were used to it, then you would find it amusing. Sorta like how we find Survivor or shows like that entertaining.

Yes, I think that with most of the Capitol's population was based on having fun and partying and living life to it's fullest.

I also think the careers found the Games as nothing big just something they had to come out winning not to save their life but to honor what they had trained for forever. The other district tributes found it as something they were forced to do and something that would ultimately change their life.

Ultimately, Peeta knew the careers were after Katniss. We have to realize he also knew her strategies. He wa probably so aware of tr fact that they would use him, he joined to give them false information about her. But when she dropped the tracker jackers, he had to help her escape. It wasn't haymitch as much as it was... Peeta

True, true...I think it's really tough to know that your own parents don't like you. That they would think your fellow tribute might win...How would you feel? Especially if you were madly in love with your fellow tribute? I would see it as a)I prove everyone wrong or b) I do everything to protect.

I'd be devestated. Less devestated if my mothe had abused me but still. I see your point. He must have had some crazy thought in his head.

Yes. I think his Dad liked him. It would be horribly hard.

Every single character in this series had such a sad and troubling life. Well, at least all the ones they matter or that we know of.(;

I think Peeta's father like him too. I remember they were talking about something unimportant in CF and I was like "Awww...at least his father cares."

She really had a lot of diversity with her characters, their situations, the problems, morals, personalities and what-not.
Do you think any stereotypes were represented? Any events from our time that were mimicked?

I think that because in that society everyone loves the games and considers them just "games" (like monopoly) I think they wouldnt really have an opinion because they would never have to worry about being in the games, which is what sparks much of the rebellion.

Very good opinion. I would think of them as just a game to play. I probably would play fight in my backyard with my best friend saying, 'I will win the Games!' had I been raised in the Capitol

Oh really? What was it?
Nice Emily. I agree.
I think every dystopian novel has a lot more reality than we think. Actually every fiction novel has a lot more reality than we think. They are really just our predictions and views of the world mixed to fiction.

Fiction is just a way for authors to express their view of the "real" world. Not everyone sees it that way.
I agree. I see a lot of the world in the dystopian books i read. Including the huger games.
